Just got me a Gigabyte GA-K8NS-Ultra today.. (socket 939, NF3 Ultra).. Every cap on this thing is either a Nichicon or Panasonic cap.. So far it's been a nice board, even though i haven't had it for 6 hours yet..
Gigabyte seems to have learned their lesson....

What series nichicon though...it's not the PW(M) series, it's the Hx series...The ones made in Hong Kong and not Japan...

Well, the vast majority of the caps on this board are Nichicon HM(M) series. Has a total of 7 2200's by CPU socket, and quite a few 1000u's scattered on the board. The ones on the input side of the CPU VRM are the Panasonics, total of 7 1000u's.. This board uses a 6 phase VRM design, so presumably the power coming out of the FETs can be smoothed pretty easily. There's a few Panasonics, and like two Nippon Chemicon..Comment

We have seen a few fails for Nichicon HM(M) series. I hope the problem is isolated and you will be lucky. Too early to worry about it though.Comment

The new "Grouper" mother board from Sapphire Tech is using the HM series...The board was featured at CEBIT...

The same HM series caps that had exploded on this board, and many others?!Originally posted by MD WillingtonThe new "Grouper" mother board from Sapphire Tech is using the HM series...The board was featured at CEBIT...

Even Nichicon is going downhill these days.
Gigabyte never was one of my favored boards.

Yep same series, but Nichicon has acknowledged the problem, I had the link somewhere..basically it detailed that the caps where not to be used around chlorine and other disinfectants etc...since SARS was a big issue in Taiwan and China this may lead to some contamination of the capacitors...
Found it...
http://www.nichicon-us.com/english/seihin/index.html
" Some disinfectants contain halogenide such as fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine etc., and acid or alkali solutions. Please do not use the disinfectants which contain any substances as above-mentioned in a location where capacitors may be subjected to them. Halogens contained in the disinfectants can particularly cause corrosive reactions to aluminum electrolytic capacitors, such as reduction of capacitance, open circuit and so on as time goes by. Therefore, if the disinfectants containing the above-mentioned substances are used at the place where capacitors are exposed and may become with them, please be sure to dry the solution completely from capacitors."
At least these guys have the balls to come out and give a warning...

by DynaxSCHi,
I discovered a strange behaviour of GIGABYTE GA-H110M-S2 board.
General test conditions:
- Tested with Core i5 6500 and Core I7 6700K - no difference
- Default BIOS settings, but tried also altering several memory setting - does not change anything
What is wrong:
With BIOS F1 and F2 the board normally POST's and boots to Windows 11 with 2 x Patriot Viper Steel PVS416G440C9K RAM (4400MHZ, Samsung B-Die chips)
When BIOS upgraded to anything above F2 (ie. F20-F27b) the board POST stucks after 3 Debug Codes on Code C2... -

by DrewPhillipsHello All, I have on the bench a couple of PSU's which have some failed Nichicon PL series caps. They didn't "puke" their guts through the top, but instead "diarrhea'ed" corrosive brown electrolyte through the bottom, down the legs and onto the board. On one cap, the electrolyte rotted the cap right off the board leaving 2 little stubs, and also corroded a trace on the foil side.
The PSU's are Power-One MAP series and are ringing-choke topology. The semiconductors have date codes in 1993. The PSU's were used in a commercial application, fan-cooled. They had failed...-

by momakaMore eBay specials: this time a Gigabyte GP-P450b 450W ATX PSU for $8 with free S&H. Listed “For part/not working”, as usual. Showed up in a beat up EVGA box without any padding… but that's understandable given the total price. PSU made it out fine without damage. It's a non-modular (yay!), pretty modern-day looking PSU with a black paint and all black cables (meh, not my favorite, but figure it's good to keep a few of these in case I do need one for a more modern PC build, just so my old gray boxes don't look too odd in there.)
And a shot of the label:... -
