One Oscon to rule them all...... :-P

As you can see from the attached pic, i've come into possession of a 2200uF 6.3V original Sanyo Oscon.

Funny thing was, it came from a $20000 digital oscilloscope that uses a $20 FIC VA 503 Super Socket 7 motherboard as its backplane. The other caps on the board all died, but this Oscon had to have been keeping it going. We decided to do a preemptive board replacement before the other caps totally grenaded everything, as the rest of the stuff in the scope is all custom parts that i'm sure are expensive.

I sourced a replacement board, as i may recap the 503 sometime, but we needed the scope back up and running quickly..

For reference, that's a Via KT266 northbridge, a 330uF 6.3V Oscon (in the size more often seen), a 3300uF Nichicon PW, and a 2200uF Rubycon MBZ.

Power Supplies should be boring: No loud noises, no bright flashes, and no bad smells.

Need advice testing a samsung power supply board with scope
        by repair-it
I am attempting to test a samsung power supply board to verify the pfc ic is working. I am powering up the board with my isolation transformer. The board turns on fine but when I attempt to connect the ground for the scope probe, it trips out the isolator. I was taught not to 'float my scope' so I am wondering if I should test without connecting the ground lead or would that be asking for trouble? Not sure how else to test, I don't have a portable scope. I could plug direct to mains power but that would bypass the safety factor.

Reading input and output of bridge rectifier on the same scope?
        by EasyGoing1
I have a 40 volt AC transformer that I put a bridge rectifier on, and I wanted to see the input signal and the output signal on the same screen on my scope, so I set one channel up with the test lead on one side of the input and the ground lead on the other side of the input, then I used another channel on the scope and clipped the test lead on the positive side of the output then the ground on the negative side of the output.

When I connected the transformer to power, the wire that was connected between the ground lead on the second channel and the negative side of the bridge rectifier...

        by definitely not an expert
I have been given a metex ms 2000 handyscope to use for fault finding.

It works but the 30 year old battery pack is no good, i have purchased the new correct batteries, tryed to put it all back together but couldnt get get continuity between the four 1.2v batteries, upon checking one of the components, a thermal fuse has blown i think.

now the issue is that I dont know what the part is, how to work out what it is and were to buy the components.

Im looking forward to getting it going so if anyone could help that would brilliant, and would certainly make my...
