    LG 47LG70 Salvaged

I picked up this 47" TV and it didn't have a picture or sound, but it did have backlights. No visible damage on any of the boards, and all the voltages were normal on the power supply. I figured it was probably the main board, but could not find one available for this model right now anywhere. I thought I might as well try reflowing the large BGA chip as I have seen others have success doing it. I heated it with my cheapo hot air rework station for a few minutes, monitored the temp with a thermocouple, trying to keep the temperature around 450-500 deg F.

I was very surprised to find out that the TV actually works 100% now! Just wanted to post this as a possible avenue to try for others in the future.

nice job, if it fails again report back, sometimes these reflows work a day sometimes for years.

What parts can be salvaged from a plasma with a damaged display panel?
      by SurrealMustard
I recently found myself the proud owner of a later-model Samsung plasma (the PN59D7000 for those keeping score at home) whose panel was, unfortunately, damaged in transport. I'm now preparing to part it out, but am curious as to whether or not any damage would have come to any of the components by attempting to power it up with the panel being broken. I read in one Avsforum thread (for whatever that's worth 😂) that the "scan driver boards" (by which I assume he means buffer boards) could be impacted by doing so. Is that actually the case? If so, since I don't intend on selling bad...

Yihua 992DA+ Hot air gun and soldering rework station, burnt mark
      by Peter_1402
      Hi Everyone,
I bought a Yihua 992DA+ hot air gun and soldering iron unit from a used market.
      1. Soldering iron works great
      2. There is a burnt mark on the hot air gun handle.
I am a bit concern by the look of the melted plastic. I opened the hot air gun handle and took some readings with a multimeter.
Heating element ~ 75ohm. (Similar reading taken from a spare heating element that came with the unit.)
Thermocouple ~ 1.5ohm. (Similar reading from the spare heating element.)
Reed switch tested ok with a magnet.
From the above test, I can conclude...

Motherboard component ID and can it be repaired?
      by 5mall5nail5
Hey all - I have an mITX board that I moved from one case to another. I was showing my son how to work on PCs (maybe mITX wasn't the best) and so he was getting a guided install of putting the board in. It booted after we swapped cases, but it was failed to POST with a CPU light on after a few times. I removed the board and noticed that this component was bumped and the legs were (possibly) touching. I went to push it back gently and it looks like the legs came off on some but also a pad might have lifted? Anyway - going to reach out for warranty/repair, but in case they tell me its dead...

SEF 551.10 - How to raise the temperature of the unleaded soldering furnace?
      by bpjl
      Hi,

We continue to struggle with the SEF 551.10 reflow oven. After we managed to start it in october - the topic here -> https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...he-reflow-oven everything promised to be good. But...

While soldering with lead paste somehow goes, but we cannot force the stove to raise the temperature
that he would dissolve the unleaded binder. I even doubted what this bastard shows on screen and passed through it a thermocouple...
