    Lg 42pc3d-ue Bad Picture

    hi all,'
check out pic of what i have
this happened suddenly while tv was on
the screen you see has no signal to it,
so its only normal static, altho even that is darkened
and it fades into total black at upper right

    the question is..
is anyone certain of the fix?
i saw another guy on here with same tv and his screen was still visible all the way across.
the suggestion for him was a y sus board prob
i talked to a guy about mine and he says maybe a z sus board or power sup prob...

any way to know for sure????

    thanks,,,,

    1 more thing
the tv doesnt seem to get warm when turned on and it will turn off by itself after maybe 10 minutes or so
always seemed to be pretty warm when it was on before,, i think normal for plasme tvs
but not sure how long it would take to get that warm
i have back of tv removed and powered up without feeling any warming anywhere

1)the best way to find out which board ( y sus or z sus ) is you can hear them running when they are working. A dim picture can be the z sus ( the board on the right as you are looking at the back of the tv). A faulty y sus most of the time would be no picture or a momentary dim picture. I have not worked on this type of lg so the board layout may be different. You should be able to find something on scribd.com. I have found alot of lg on this website. Also look for fuses on y and z boards. A picture of the back of the tv showing the boards would be helpfull.

    2) Wait for plainbill or Wizard They may have worked on this type of l/g

I just found the other thread on Plainbill. Look for the white sticker on the upper left or right of the pdp it will give you the panel model number with a list of voltages. When you look up l/g on scribd.com you will need to scroll through to find your panel number. It will show you where to check for voltage on all of the boards. These boards are all over ebay.

If the lighted corner was in the lower right I would say it absolutely is the Z-sus. I had two sets with the same panel, the same symptom, and bad Z-sus boards. The first step is to open the set up and check for blown fuses on both Y-sus and Z-sus boards. If the clip-in fuse is blown, there is a short on the board, and either repair or replace it.

If you have a scope, look at the output of the Z-sus and compare it to the pictures below. Note that the bad Z-sus has slow transitions and garbage imposed on the trace.

Note there is someone on eBay who will repair these, and if you send him both he will give you a discount. There is also someone else who is selling the hybrids.

There are one or two (I disremember) on each board. Check them with a DMM on the 200 ohms range.

I was just wondering about that. Do they even teach component level repair in electronics school anymore, or is it all board swapping?

It could be the quality and darkness of the pic, but 3 caps look bloated on the power board just left the 2nd transformer (yellow block)?

To get better quality pics, take your tv closer to a window on a sunny day (or open your curtains) to let more light in.

If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

                    1. Check the fuses. It's quick and easy. If any are blown, repair the board (probably the hybrid), or have the board repaired.

The board on the left is the Y-sus, the one on the right is the Z-sus. Z-sus is easy to pull and replace, Y-sus is more difficult.

                    Agreed, those caps look suspicious.

Or he could buy a real camera.
