RCA LED42C45RQ Power, no sound or picture.

New to the forum. I have a somewhat similar issue to this thread:

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...ght=LED42C45RQ

My problem is a bit different in the fact that I can turn the TV both on and off. I'm fixing this for a friend and TV repair is a bit new to me. I was told initially that it had no power, so while waiting to get the TV, I ordered the power board. When the TV arrived, I found it had power (I have not tested the voltages using the PDF guide yet.)

After seeing the TV does have power, before I went to far off the rails, I decided on an LED tester first and I did find one bad LED. My soldering is not up to par so I am ordering one LED strip to replace it. My question is this - would the TV control board be able to sense this one failed LED and stop the TV from fully powering? I have no picture and no sound, although the screen seems to flash briefly before going black. I'm thinking I also have a bad control board, but this type of testing is out of my wheelhouse. I appreciate everyone's input - I'll be testing voltages soon and will update this post. Thank you!

Yes one bad LED can trigger protection shutdown because the feedback voltage is out of range.

Every RCA LED TV I've encountered had bad backlights if it turned on with no backlight or flash of backlights. Impossible to get new LED strips for them so I repair the individual LEDs and turn down the backlight level as low as possible in the service menu. Menu-1-1-4-7 or source-2-5-8-0 under panel settings. I've encountered models where lowering the backlight didn't save or I couldn't adjust it with the remote cursor buttons. Some do have energy savings picture mode which run the backlight a little lower than max.

I found replacement strips for the TV. Should I replace all of them at one time? Or am I good just replacing the one and rolling with it? Thanks!

since they're not too expensive, best policy is to replace all, because they are all the same age and likely more will go very shortly.

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
          by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

Samsung UN60EH6000F Black Screen, Backlight and Sound Good. Power Cycle Returns Picture
          by Mgiffune
I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and

Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 - no power
          by PantherDave
          Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

          Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about...

Toshiba 37AV500A Regza TV good power supply no sound no picture
          by jord4231
          Hi Everyone,

I'm working on a Toshiba 37AV500A Regza TV.

          The issue:
TV was working picture and sound went out. Green stand by light stayed on, It will respond to the power button being pressed (goes in and out of standby)
The TV will very intermittently work for around 40 mins then stop. This doesn't seem to matter if its hot/cold unplugged for a while etc.

I checked the PSU voltages and everything looked good.
No bulging caps or signs of heat.
