LG 42LD490 stuck in standby with flashing red light

The problem with my TV is very similar to an earlier post but there was no final solution posted.

When the TV is first turned on from cold it will not turn on. The red standby light begins pulsing and a high pitch whine is heard. The back light remains off. If the TV is left trying to boot like this and then turned off and on again a few times then eventually it will turn on and sit there working all day long.

I initially suspected the PSU after spotting this kit for sale,
    http://www.ohmsupplies.co.uk/epages/...roducts/KIT229

The capacitors generally look ok and I have however tried swapping a few of them out just in case but it has made no difference. The only thing left would be to swap all the capacitors just in case one is bad but not bulged or leaking etc.

I have now been reading a lot of posts saying the main board is the likely culprit. I have had the main board in the over before at 200 degrees for 10 mins to fix it stuck with the spinning logo and it has been perfect since.

Is there a way to fully test the PSU before throwing money at it potentially unnecessarily changing all the capacitors?

Re: LG 42LD490 stuck in standby with flashing red light

Update - I have just been around the back of the TV and tried to listed where the high pitch sound is coming from which it makes while trying to start up. It is definitely coming from the main board and not the PSU board and so I guess that is the most likely culprit then.

It looks like the place selling a capacitor kit for the PSU to fix the problem is misleading.

you could try heating the power supply up with a hair dryer for a few minutes does the tv start up now if ok its possible the capacitors are bad high esr etc ohms supplies are a good company i have brought a lot of parts from them.

Yes, that seems like a great idea as whatever component it is that is faulty it does not like being cold. Try warming up the PSU first and if not then try warming up the suspect IC on the main board. It is one of those challenging intermittent problems - the TV is on right now and is working perfect but nobody dare turn it off!

On the lgs i have worked on expecially the older ones its 50/50 psu or main that was at fault if bad caps on psu the hair dryer trick usually works. if your doing more repairs maybe look into getting a tester like this

Just thinking about it a bit more, it makes sense that it would be a main board issue as once the TV is on, it would happily keep working 24/7 until I switch it off and let it cool down. My bedroom TV on the other hand likes a new set of PSU caps every other year and the first sign of trouble is it keep switching itself off when it gets hot.

I have had a ESR meter on my list of things to buy for a while but I am a bit dubious about buying anything from ebay and especially being dispatched from China!

You could do the same with the mainboard. Heat different parts if not starting, or cool parts when it's working. Should be easy to narrow down.
I assume no responsibility for any stupid suggestions I might post.

The esr tester i linked above i brought from ebay and it came from china it works fine for what i need, you can also update the firmware on the tester too make it more acurate. I was looking at the peak atlas esr 70 which also is a good tester and can test in circuit.

Samsung UN70TU7000FXZX A two-times flashing standby light loop with no image.
                  by alro7779
                  Hello, everyone!

A friend of mine gave me a 70" Samsung TV that does not show image after pressing the power button... It's in a loop with the standby red light flashing two times while the TV tries to power on with a startup sound. You see, it occurs to me that I could try keep learning how to repair TVs out of this device, so I'll share some pics I took after taking the back cover out; I noticed that someone tried to repair it (or did it at some point) because I found a small power supply glued on the metal cover by the mainboard (3.3v IN and 13v OUT). The idea here is checking...

AVT150 stuck in standby (mute) – standby pin at 0 V unless T104 is removed
                  by Benass
I am troubleshooting an AVT150 amplifier. The standby pin is at 0 V, so the amp remains muted.

                  I have the schematics attached.

                  Key observation:
                  • The standby pin is 0 V (muted condition).
                  • If I remove T104, the standby voltage is restored.
                  • With T104 removed, I have 4.7v on standby pin and TDA can see signal generated.

This suggests T104 (or its surrounding circuitry) is pulling the standby line low, but I am not yet certain whether this is due to a faulty transistor, a control signal upstream, or a protection condition being asserted.

                  Has anyone...

LG OLED77C2PUA CUSQLJR Does not turn on - solid standby light with one blink.
                  by Chris24
Hello, been a while since posting and always appreciate this forum and the help.

Picked up an LG OLED77C2PUA that does not turn on.

The standby light does come on when plugged in. Pressing the on/off button on TV (or LG remote) the red light turns off for 1 second and comes back on steady. I took off the back panel and tested the power supply. When pressing the power button, the 20V and 12V to Mainboard spike to 19.9 and 11.9 for a few seconds then slowly drop back off. Can tell the supply is coming on for 2-3 seconds. The 12V to TCON also spikes to 11.9 then drops back...

Samsung UE43KU6400U Flashing Red Standby Light
                  by Bloopeta
Have a Samsung UE43KU6400U that will not turn on, just continuous flashing red standby light.
                  Power button does nothing

Have unplugged the mainboard, and backlights illuminate.
Have tried removing panel ribbon cables one at a time, and that makes no change.

With mainboard unplugged, all voltages from powerboard seem ok, but with mainboard connected, they never quite reach full voltage, and drop and raise in a constant loop (in time with click noise from mainboard.

Using backlight tester, I get 63.6v on both sides, so seems like no bulbs...

Samsung plasma - flashing standby light
                  by 7ony
The TV is a 2013 Samsung plasma, model # PN60F5300AFXZA.

Snagged it up in non-working condition a couple years ago. Previous owner said that sometimes he could get it to come on after repeated tries but other than that he couldn't get it to turn on.

Personally I haven't been able to get it to turn on at all. The standby light comes on solid when plugged in, but pressing the power button results in the standby light flashing once every 4 or so seconds. No "click" noises, no light from the panel at all. Just the flashing standby light.

                  No visible...
