Re: Samsung plasma TV PS-42V4S repair

I wish it was, but the sticker on the back panel only says:

    Model: PS-42V4S
    Type: NS-42V4

And the serial number of course, nothing else.

That's interesting. I'll do my best.

The service manual shows 2 mainboards side by side is your like this or one board?

      Cheers, Wizard

My mainboard is just one board. It's marked:

        Board: NELSON
        Code: BN41-00452 C
        Rev: MP 1.4 (2004-08-19)

Wednesday evening, I'll place a bunch of photos of the set.

A few pictures of the Samsung...

I'll bring the mainboard to work tomorrow and check trough a microscope. I hope I find some soldering problem on one of the big IC's.

          Keep fingers crossed

Unfortunately, not much to complain about the soldering work...
Guess the only way is to find a replacement board.

Wizard, or anyone else, do you think it's possible to run into an old replacement mainboard for this set? Do you have any contacts, possibly?

I may be able to help find you a part number. Can you reply back with the serial number?

I see that this is not a U.S. tv. What country do you live in?
If U.K., I see this board on eBay' U.K. site with a buy it now price of 39.99.
It's item #120536834157 and auction ends in 6 days. There is also a complete non working tv with this same model number for sale there too... it ends 23 Mar, 201019:14:40 GMT. You may want to buy this, I noticed from your photo that one of the heatsinks seems to be missing from the lower y-buffer board, that will probably eventually lead to problems.

Thanks for the tip bird, unfortunately I'm in Sweden. I realize a replacementboard will be the only way to repair this TV. I will not even try doing a component level repair. I'm very interested if anyone find one.

Hmmm ... This TV hasn't been touched for a long time, when I today just thought to put back the mainboard and see the fault again.
But, the fault was gone!! I have NO IDEA how, but it must be some bad soldering somewhere on the mainboard. The reason for keeping this TV so long, is simply that I like the design because it uses DISCRETE driver boards and NOT the hybrid parts. That is what I call a good design.

Can i bring this thread alive again ?

Well i got one of these sets for free by an old tv tech here in sweden (exactly the same model)

This unit works perfect for like 25-35min, then the picture in the sides start "shaking" like you have an highvoltage problem in an old crt then it shuts down within a few min i shall take a few pics of the fault this weekend and take quality pics on each board in it.

Repaired a few LCD's with bad PSU, i get the feeling like it is a power problem or could i be wrong?

Perhaps i should get my self an esr meter and see if i could find some bad caps?

It flashes with the red led 4 times when it starts is it suppose to do that?

                        TIA

                        Peter

Hi, I know this thread is very old, but I have exactly the same problem as you.
Have you managed to solve it? If you have, could you please tell me how?
I've searched the web but I can't find any case related to mine...

Hello 👋 I have a tv with these red lines. I've tried cleaning and re-seating the ribbon cables but no luck! Tried all 4 on the LJ92-01485 board and on the bottom of the panel. Do you guys think it's the board?|

This is my 2nd broken TV I'm trying to fix and haven't been able to figure out... currently going without any working TVs so am hoping to be able to fix one..

This Samsung PN50B430P2D Plasma has this big block of vertical lines which will fade in shortly after turning the TV on. The lines will sometimes flicker a bit or fade in/out and sometimes it just stays present. The length of time it takes them to appear varies, sometimes its a few minutes and other times it appears immediately after powering on.

I have attached an image of the TV with these bars displaying....
