    Sony KDL-70W830B backlight repair

    Hi all,

I have a Sony KDL-70W830B 3D TV where it turns on, the front LED flashes 4 times, then it shuts off.

    According to Google searches:
....a 4 blink code means either the backlight inverter board is bad or one of the backlights in the LCD panel has failed. It can also be the LD board or main logic board, check inverter board wires for arcing to ground.
I also see that @jeffer76 had what sounds like the same problem in this thread:
    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=82306

It displays the menu and even the app selection screen briefly (< 5 sec) before it turns off, so this tells me that the LCD hardware itself is fine (I think; please correct me if I'm wrong).

I'm not afraid to take things apart and work on them, but what I don't want to do is spend hundreds of dollars throwing parts at the problem. A set of replacement backlight strips on ShopJimmy are about $100, but I want to make sure that's the correct fix first.

...so what I'd like to ask is, what tests can I do with a multimeter to determine if the backlight strips themselves are bad, the inverter board, or something else like the LED Driver board or T-Con board.

Any repair experts here that can tell me what to test?

    Thanks a bunch!

There are few things you can do.
First of all identify all connections to LED strips and measure voltages when backlight is on.
If a strip is open, there will be higher voltage across it compared to good strips.
If voltage across good strip is <120V, you can connect normal bulb in parallell with broken strip, this will fool power supply and TV will stay on.

Separate strips without aluminum plates are much cheaper on aliexpress.
The reason they sell it with aluminum plates is because they are parting out TV's and good strips can be damaged if removed. However, if you replace them with new ones, no need to worry about it.
Be very careful with internal glass, it will crack if flexed and your backlight will be really ugly.

Thanks so much @alfatv, this is great info!

I'll do some work and report back.

Guide me through repairing a Dell p2210f LCD ccfl backlight monitor
        by DanPoka
I bought this p2210f dell monitor to fix. Schematic is the same as p2210.
Behaviour is that monitors comes on but then backlight switches off almost instantly. If I look with flashlight I can still find the "No signal message". So definitely a backlight issue. Trying to advance the issue I proved that the protection circuit is switching off the backlight by shorting out C3 and resistor to disable the INL chip then re enable by removing the short.
This is where it gets interesting. When I disassembled the monitor to solder leads on c3 capacitor I noticed the backlight flickered...

        No Backlight Macbook A1990 820-01041
        by Comp_Pro
        Hello all,

Am trying to figure out this backlight issue with this A1990 Macbook Pro.

        Tests performed:

There is no backlight even with a good screen.
Backlight IC is receiving the correct support voltages.
        Fuse F8400 ok
        Current sense resistor R8400 ok
Backlight IC is receiving 3.3V on enable pin.
Backlight IC receiving voltage from PPBUS_G3H, aprox 12.5V.
Backlight IC receiving 5V from PP5V_G3S
Backlight IC BKLT_SCL and BKLT_SDA both measure 0.545V diode mode to ground
        I2C_BKLT_SCL and I2C_BKLT_SDA both measure...

Sony XBR 49x900E - Sound and backlight on but no picture
        by DKWS89
        Hey Guys,

So a few months ago my Sony XBR 49x900e TV screen stopped displaying the picture but the backlight comes on and I still get sound when I use the remote and navigate to certain apps. I haven't checked anything with the meter yet but started with ordering some replacement boards. I've tried replacing the BMKS board (used from ebay) and also completed the firmware upgrade based on Nicks TV repairs youtube video. I've also replaced the TCON (twice) and PIB.

All of these changes have resulted in the same issue with no picture. I've also tried disconnecting the ribbons...

Sony XBR-75X950G seems dead with a black screen but backlight and sound is working and no blinking red lights
        by Audeze
I have a 2019 75" x950g, and while playing a movie, the screen suddenly went dark in a weird way, where it faded towards one corner into being fully black. Now the TV turns on, and the backlight comes on, but there is nothing displayed except black. Sound still comes through the TV speakers, and i have tried doing a hard reset using the volume - and power buttons while plugging the display back in, but it did not fix it. I can confirm that pressing buttons on my remote is still doing "something" because I'm hearing sound still, even though the screen is black.

        Does...

LED problem on samsung UE55F6475, 2 strips work. The rest is flashing every second.
        by Kingfreddie
        Ok.. this is the story:
Have an old Samsung LED 3D TV (UE55F6475). First it started to lose light on the lower 40% of the screen now and then. Like for 10-60 mins and then it would work again. Then a bit later it just got stuck in that position. The lower 40% of the screen is dark, and it gets progressively darker the lower u go so it's obviously that LED strips where not working. I also looked for similar errors online and saw an exact copy and on that one it was faulty LED strips.

This is kinda how it looked, just that mine were at the bottom of the screen:
