Broken inductor...to rewind or not to rewind, that's the question.

OK this damn Sony Trinitron threw me another curve ball tonight. As I was cleaning the flux off the board I noticed an inductor was not secure...I made sure it was soldered, it was.

The glue that held the bobbin tot he pin base had gave way....one of the wires had broke, the inner one of course. The inductor had to be totally unwound to get it.

The question is, once rewound is it suitable for use in the TV? Its connected in parallel to a cap and resistor in series and this combo is in turn connected to the collector of a transistor labeled "PIN OUT". It didn't appear to be perfect layer wound...but it certainly isn't now!

Seems to be an LC oscillator but Im not quite sure.

Looks like the worst that could happen is really screwed up pincushion.... Im gonna give it a go. DC resistance is 4.8 ohms so at least its not shorted.

Have you checked Encompass Parts for a replacement?

Depending on the age of the set a replacement might result in you pulling less hair out of your head .
Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.

          Maybe.
Resistance will not show a shorted turn or 12. Ringing will.

If this is a bobbin wound coil with no "pattern" to it, you might be okay.

as krank says, try to find replacement...if you can't, then think about other options...

Im surprised he hasn't either. At least its not a dead short..... which would definitely kill the TV

TV has other issues....vertical IC is dead. On the bright side.... the new HOT and flyback are working and the set is alive enough to blink out some diags codes on the front panel.

Lenovo S145 -15iwl vcore inductor warm.. looking with oscilloscope there is a spike.
                  by Bartoloni
Hi, i have a Lenovo S145 that after 20 seconds shutdown and restart (it's working correctly on thse 20 seconds)
everything seems ok, but on Vcore inductor ( this is an i3 with just 1 switching power supply for CPU)

there is an output to teh CPU with a spike.. seems that inductor can't handle the input...
replaced the capacitor (330) and the inductor (R15) without any change
                  any idea? very thank you!

input of the inductor seems as usual... only strange thing is that the upper/lower voltages seems to be 21V (main power line is 19.3) ... but not sure this...

Is it possible bridging tiny broken trace
                  by chth96
When I assembled dreamcast I mistakenly fastened long bolt and It resulted in
                  cutting tiny trace.
This tiny trace(Total width of white coating is 5.5mm) is between R337,R343 and IC101 and it is covered with white coating in the below screenshot.

Firstly I tried to bridging tiny broken trace with my own eyes...But it is totally impossible..So a week ago, I ordered G1200 Digital Microscope and I magnified this tiny broken trace with it.

But It seems that It is really very tiny trace So I plan to order 0.1mm coper wire from aliexpress in order to bridging...

Blown Inductor on WD My Passport
                  by silver60618
Hi Guys, my WD My Passport drive powers on, then powers off. Ive taken out the motherboard and identified a blown Inductor. Im trying to recover my data only

Reading between leads show nothing. If I removed this Inductor, what would be a suitable replacement? am I correct that its a ferrite Inductor is to just filter noise?
Ive seen people just bridge them, any harm in replacing it with a differnt value Inductor?

Lastly am I correct in thinking there is no polarity on the smd component?

                  Thanks!...

Corsair CX750M [Model 75-002019] - burned output toroid inductor
                  by momaka
Looks like I may need a little help from the PSU experts (or anyone really! ) I have a Corsair CX750M (Model 75-002019) that I picked up for free about 4 years ago. This is the PSU:

So here’s what’s strange about this one: it appears to work normally (normal output voltages) and any PC is stable with it. However, after a while (typically 10-20 minutes, but time can vary depending on the load), there is a sweetish smell of burned magnet wire insulation emanating from the PSU. Upon opening the PSU after this happened (many times), I was able to confirm...

Aorus 17G YD laptop, broken display, could not switch to external monitor
                  by ArchangelGabriel
Hello guys! I need a little help, I have one laptop for repair, it is an Aorus 17G YD, gaming laptop. Broken display, some cable ripped form daughter board connector, case broken, battery discharged and probably locked, etc. After I did the most tedious job I ever did on soldering back the broken cables (shielded cable) , I measured resistance on CPU and GPU core, 3 and 5 v ps and any coils I find on the board, everything seems to be fine. After I plugged the charger I don't get the power led light on from the charger connection maybe because the battery is locked , but on power button I have
