Yup. 3300uF 10V Samwha. Replace with Digikey P12735-ND, Panasonic EEU-FM1A332. The pair will set you back about $5.00, including shipping. A definitive test: When you turn it on it will try to start, then you will get a blinking red led in either a 6 flashes - short pause - 3 flashes - long pause 6 flashes etc pattern or just 7 flashes.

Then visit the Philips web site and download the latest firmware for the set. The also have the instructions for updating the firmware.

I did few of these similar kind on samsung plasma sets and it was in similar area.

BTW, pretty old I bet. Um, good idea to check small capacitors with ESR meter.

Wow thanks Bill you totally nailed it. I ordered 10 caps 2 for the tube 8 for the parts bin around 10 bux shipped. Bill you should change your name to capacitorgod

. If this is another easy one I will give it to my nephew (BB's boy) for his first xmass home from Iraq. See how things kind of go full circle in a manner of speaking. The lil blank bag was claiming the thing before I even took it apart lol. I told him I was gonna keep it but I have plenty already so he knows. I do need to get a good esr meter that I don't have to build any suggestions? Not that I don't like building stuff I just don't have a lot of time with work and all. That's why I think the easy ones are so rewarding because of the amount of time spent. A pic of what you already know.

have a magnavox version of the same set.46" .
its on board #3.bestbuy replaced the set under the extended warrenty and did not take this one when they delivered the replacement.my neighbor asked me to haul it away.sure!
btw these are rebadged samsungs.
replaced all the samwha and crapxons in the board.wanna bet it holds up this time around?

Not rebadged. Lot of other makers often take complete plasma panel (including SMPS) and simply add their own design of casing and mainboard. That one is definitely philips casing and philips' brackets, some of screws (philips's usual T8 while samsung's is philips #2), and philips' main board using samsung panel assembly. I worked on these. Remember we're authorized for samsung and Philips? Ditto to former RCA.

Rebadged means they took other maker complete TV and put their own name on it.
Akai TV especially rear projection CRT were Samsung, just a name tag change for example.

Philips & Magnavox (catered to lower end) are their two brands. This takes bit of knowledge to know which is their one of their brands or rebranded or simply bought partial assemblies and assembled by their other maker.

This problem was funny because I repaired one this summer; my wife has it in her office now. I was looking at one yesterday, but the guy wanted $400 for it (non-working); about three times what I am willing to pay for a 4 year old 720P plasma (pulling out those 60 screws is a b**ch of a job).

As far as an ESR meter, I have two suggestions - I'm willing to sell my Bob Parker Blue ESR meter for what I paid for the kit; or you can order RussMike's ESR Micro 3.1 (or 4.0?). See this thread in the test equipment subforum

I got the Blue ESR kit, and assembled it in about an hour. Took my time, checked and double checked each part, tic'd it off on the instructions as I went. Put in a 9-volt, the hardest part of the deal. {cannot get it out w/o using a screwdriver or taking the case apart} Worked 1st try. I have yet to adjust the low battery 6.5v level.
I am not much of a kit putter-together. Last was an Radio Shack VOM in '78. It still works, too. Better for checking electrolytic being open or shorted by watching needle reaction. Does not do the ESR part...
Definitely worth having the Blue ESR.

If you are going to buy an assembled unit, check out the 'purple ESR Plus', which also checks the capacitance... for only $23 more. If I had know about the Plus, I might have gone for pre-assembled.

Panel is also samsung, I recognize that. (SMPS, panel, and Y and X and Z driver boards are all samsung (comes as an assembly).

Where is SMD location that went missing? Doesn't look lost. What you lost is a eyelet for the through hole capacitor. Fixable.

When I put the new cap in and turned the board over the pad was on the end of the lead

This what tore out is ground. Drill a small hole "1/16" (caution! make sure the spot you chose to drill is clear of both sides except ground plane, this board is only 2 layers), next to this torn eyelet and feed a wire from other side and make sure to solder that end on the ground plane (scrape mask off). Once done, wrap free end of wire to the installed capacitor loosely and once. Solder.

Keep in mind, keep it hot when you rock one pin out of old cap and another pin till capacitor is out. Vacuum out solder plugged holes. Work gently (pressure on it with soldering iron.)

Thanks for the great advice guys and add another tv to the list

I was able to get solder in the barrel. Now that cap will be very hard to remove in the future hopefully I won't have to. also I did a search on youtube for tv repair the other day and found lots of good stuff. Do you guys do any of the tv repair tutes on youtube? Man my nephew I gonna need to change his drawers when I show up with this at his house on friday here is a pic of the tv on.

Thanx Wizard. I wound up giving the plasma back to Dug making him very happy. He made me a sweet offer. I just couldn't give his set away. My nephew wound up with my brothers 37 polaroid. All parties happy. Wish I could run into these situations more often.

I'm just baffled that the repair shop didn't fix this. It'd have been an easy couple hundred bucks for almost no work, and the customer wouldn't have hesitated for a second to pay that. Idiots.

lots of lazy assed board swapper shops out there.
get a lot of sets where customer was told to junk it as they could not get a board.most are easy fixes.i will take the cash if they wont or cant!

Our shop do cap swap but most boards especially mainboard, YSUS, buffer boards etc are whole board swap except power supply (usually repairable if I can source hard to find parts from junkers).

Sometimes I managed to nab a common component misbehaving and replace it.
