Replacing LCD Module

Hi!

Has anyone replaced an LCD Module? I am not talking about the entire panel, just the module. I wanted to keep the external frame, polarizing film, optical film, light guide path, backlighting, etc, and just replace the LCD module.

I tried searching for info on the net but only came across replacing the entire panel. I was thinking maybe I could find a source for LCD modules, hopefully with the buffers, but if not, maybe just solder them on. I believe I need special equipment for those flex cables or whatever you wanna call them. It was just a thought.

And how is some one going to ship this "thin piece" to you successfully. Of course, all tabbing would have to be included on this "thin piece". Its like not going to happen unless you live next to the chinese factory... :-)

And you'd need to find the exact size too! 1/8 of an inch out will lead to light bleed problems, cracking issues, etc etc...

To build on what budwich said, I once did some pretty deep investigation into sourcing new LCD's to replace the cracked screen tv's we get through our retail connections. Even if you live right next to the factory it seems they want about 90% of the value of the TV's retail price. Just not worth it.

I was going try and find an actual model number on the panel itself and replace it with the same one, if I could. That price is what I was worried about. There are ways to ship very delicate stuff safe like. I was hoping the price of the actual module, not the entire panel, would be fairly cheap. If it's going to cost, let's say, half the price of a new tv, I just won't do it.

We now have a couple TVs with good boards but cracked screens. One's a 4K 43" LG, one's a 40" Samsung. It would have been nice to fix them, but I guess I could always sell the working boards.
