Light that has a bug zapper in bottom section of light fixture the LED light module took a crap but the zapper still works

So I got the bright idea to remove the LED light module from the fixture and put it on top of another enclosure and keep using the zapper

The removal of light module was a successful and now I just have to cut a hole in the enclosure and put a power cord that has an on and off switch on it

You are lucky to get about two years of service out of one before the LED module starts flicking and just stops working because it is mounted on an aluminum plate and these are hard to solder on it and it is not worth messing around with them and especially this one because it has line voltage on it and I am not in favor of messing around with it for this particular reason

I have bought several of them in the past and the way it fails is all ways the same it first it just blinking every once in a while and as time goes on it flicker every once in awhile then it just flickering all time and then it just refuses to come back on

Now what is interesting about the LED light module on the bottom does not have this issue it always works fine with no issues

I will post some pictures of it when I finish the enclosure and put the power cord with the on and off switch

pictures of the modules would be good, i'v only had the older ones with a flourescent tube.
are you sure it's not just dead leds?

It could be but what I do not like about this particular one is that the section where the line voltage goes to the board and these wires are too close to each I guess I could screw around with it with the use of a incandescent light as a current limiting device but these LED light bulb module is crap because everyone of has failed the same way there are several surfaces mount ic chips on this board I would not be surprised if the part number have been removed so they can not be read

I will take some close up pictures of this board and make sure that it can be read

One note these LED light/bug zapper are around $20.00 when on sale and around $25.00 when they are not on sale so they are so cheap they they are not worth spending much time on these LED light module one note it does not appear that these are being over driven because it is not extremely bright so what I am leaning towards is the LED light bulbs must be very low quality ones or the aluminum heat sink is not thick enough for the surface mount LEDs or a combination of both

if they are near-uv they wont look bright.
i have a bag of 100 3mm ones and they dont look bright but they throw out a lot of uv because stuff glows all over the desk when i power one.

Here is the picture that I promised to post on this LED light module it appears that these LEDs have over driven because one of them has a black spot on one end of it see in the picture and it has text on the picture

thats the guts from an led lamp,
those only last 6-9months for cheap ones.
so what colour did it light?
that is normally on an aluminium cone to disperse the heat

              Warm white is the color
I have had LED modules last longer than this on aluminum plate then this must be crape LED surface mount modules or they are driving them to hard

I know that the aluminum plate is to dissipate the heat but this is very thin I have seen thicker aluminum plates for aluminum plate heat sinks I guess when you only pay $20.00 when they are on sale you get what you paid for which is not much life
I use this light combination in our laundry room because it also is entrance to the house garage
I might make a LED light for this room any hack the other light/zapper combination and have two bug zappers

( I bought about 20 of the LED light modules just recently at Electronic Goldmine when they had a really good sale on them and put a voltage/current switching power supply that I also bought when they had really good prices on them as well )

This is the LED light module I was referring to earlier in this post

                https://theelectronicgoldmine.com/co...roducts/g27241

And probably use this heat sink with a temperature controlled cooling fan I am waiting for these to go on sale before I buy some

                https://theelectronicgoldmine.com/co...roducts/g21591

Or use this one because the other one might not fit the light module completely but with this I could fit two light modules on it and one cooling fan ( I have never seen this heat sink go on sale before but sense they only have six available it might be clearance out I might wait until this happens or I might just buy one and see if I can use it for a proof of concept and do some touch testing on two light modules and see how well this works

                https://www.mpja.com/High-Power-Alum...info/34881+HK/

And this cooling fan I bought four of them I have a bunch of other ones from a different company and I bought all of them when they were clearance them out from MPJA a couple of years ago

                https://www.ebay.com/itm/285153142018

And this is the switching power supply I also bought when they were half price and you could only buy one per order and it was a weekend sale I bought two of them

                https://theelectronicgoldmine.com/co...roducts/g27636

I have several florescent light fixtures ( that came from the company that I work for now they were going to the dumpster because they are slowly getting replaced with LED light fixtures that are very bright and expensive) but I am only using one of them for this purpose that I going retro fitted and use these LED light modules in for my new shed for the main lighting fixture probably use six to eight modules in this light fixture and use a separate switching power supply for the cooling fans ( This light fixture is going to be used when I really need a lot of light when working on a project and I have to use most of the shed work table that is being used when working on it I have one LED light fixture that is the same as the other light fixtures and this one will be used when I only need normal lighting )

At least this is the plan for now

                  interesting leds.
probably not cree, but thats not important - there are a number of good led companies now.
