    sony APS-277 Atypical failure

I have an APS-277 power supply that is completely dead on the secondary side. No STB, no anything.

170 at the primary caps. Doesn't not appear to be any transistors or diodes shorted.

I have found R6201 to be open. A 10ohm 1/2w. Based on continuity testing it appears to be across the primary caps (which feels strange). Cannot seem to find a schematic. I found sony_ge4a_cxa3809am_fa7700n_ba2901sf_sch.pdf which seems to be similar but not quite there.

Does it make sense for that 10ohm 1/2W to be running across those caps? Seems awful small if its meant to drain those big caps.

Maybe something going on with IC6201? ::Update:: IC6201 shorted D-S. Removed, above resistor connections no longer relevant. Guess ill replace this thing and see what happens.

I don't know what TV model you have but see if this thread for a SONY NSX-40GT1 with APS-277 power supply helps you:

Got it. IC6201 Shorted - opened up R6201. Took both from donor board and TV is alive again. Guess i just had to think out loud a little. Hope this thread helps the next guy.

To help others, please let us know what is the resistance value of R6201 and the part number marking on IC6201 that you replaced...

R6201 is fusible flame proof resistor it is used for feeding the Voltage from the main cap to the Standby power supply section, it will blow open if the STBY SMPS IC shorted out.
