Sanyo VHR H793 won't accept tape

I have recently obtained a Sanyo VHS player that I was hoping to use to back up old VHS recordings to DVD and computer. Mechanically the machine looks completely sound, and all the electronics are working... except I can't play a tape! When I try to put a tape in, I get no response from the motors at all. Applying further pressure to the tape results in the spring spitting the tape back out when I release it; with no attempt to load it in.

On rare occasions if I jiggle the tape around with the lid open, it'll sometimes trigger the loading sequence. At this point all functions (play, rewind, still etc) work perfectly, and the tape isn't being snagged or rubbed anywhere. After ejecting the tape though, it's back to square one.

I surmise this has something to do with the switch that tells the logic board when a tape is being inserted. But I've looked everywhere, and can't seem to find that switch! I'm also unable to find a service manual for this particular model. It does sound like it would be a very easy fix, if only I knew where to look...
You know there's something wrong when you open your PC and it has vented Rubycons...

There should be a lever that activates a switch usually located on the main pc board This happens as soon as the tape is pushed forward, It can't be that difficult to locate.
It could also be the mode switch contacts that are tarnished and need cleaning, when the cassete is pushed forward there is a gear on the arm that connects to a geared lever that moves the lower mechanism slightly to start the tape loading.

NEC TurboExpress On/Off Power Switch Replacement Help
      by grimacelord
      Hello,

I've been working on a NEC TurboExpress and I accidentally got the plastic inside the power ON/OFF switch too hot while doing other repairs and melted it. At first, it would still power on when sliding the switch, but you had to really press inward while sliding to get it to work.

I removed the switch component and tried to gently melt the plastic back so it would work more reliably and all I managed to do was make it worse.

I need to find a replacement On/OFF switch for this, but having some trouble figuring out which kind of switch I need....

Help making a switch work the opposite way with a relay
      by SluggerB
I have a very small float switch, I'm using in a very small tank. It only fits in one way. Link https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-Switch.../dp/B07DZ1J2GB

I want the switch to be open when the water is high, and closed when the water is low. Unfortunately it works the opposite. And since this switch is designed to be underwater, it's all sealed up, there is no taking it apart or hacking it up.

It will be driving a water pump, basic idea, when the water is low, switch closes, which turns on water pump, when enough water is in the tank, float switch floats,...

IBM LTO 7 Tape Drive - Dust Sensors??
      by RetroComputingGrotto
I have a Quantum SuperLoader robotic tape library that uses an IBM LTO 7 tape drive which is constantly complaining that it needs cleaning. If you insert a cleaning tape, it performs the clean and resets the cleaning counter to 0 hours. It should only require cleaning every 50 or so working hours but after as little as just 1 hours use it requests cleaning. We've purchased a new cleaning tape along with new LTO backup tapes but that has not resolved the problem.

I have taken the library apart and can see no noticeable signs of dust inside. I have removed the tape drive from the...

      Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....
