    Did I buy a bad Samsung main board? TCON Gamma values included

    Hello.

    I'm looking for some help to confirm if I may have bought a bad used main board for my Samsung LNT5265FX.

    Original problem:
    - Screen image faded while watching.
    - After power cycling, it would not start back up (clicking noise every few minutes, but no boot)

    > Based on other advice, I first replaced the power board's capacitors, though they all looked fine.
    This resulted in No change.
    > Next I replaced main board BN94-01199L but with model BN94-01199C – visually these two boards look the same and Seller had told me the series letter would not matter…

    Current problem:
    TV does boot up now, but it has a heavily solarized image (pictures attached).
    If I go into service mode and select a different panel (42AM or 46AM vs 52AM) the picture is much better but it is still not useable.

    I think this means the main board I bought is also either bad, or that series letter does matter.
    On the other hand, I didn't want to raise a fuss about this if the problem is really something like the TCON board. I did take measurements of the TCON Gamma values:
    VGMA01 = 14.45
    VGMA02 = 13.47
    VGMA03 = 11.39
    VGMA04 = 11.06
    VGMA05 = 10.66
    VGMA06 = 10.45
    VGMA07 = 10.24
    VGMA08 = 10.16
    VGMA09 = 9.14
    VGMA10 = 6.31
    VGMA11 = 5.26
    VGMA12 = 5.14
    VGMA13 = 4.91
    VGMA14 = 4.47
    VGMA15 = 4.08
    VGMA16 = 3.71
    VGMA17 = 1.49
    VGMA18 = 0.39

    Anyone have thoughts on if this indicates this replacement main board is the likely issue?
    Or, if maybe it is fine, but that the series BN94-01199 “C” vs “L” really does matter for this line? The manufacture dates on the board for “C” are 1-23-2007, vs the “L” are 6-5-2007.

    Thank you

    Model = LNT5265FX XAA
    Serial = AJ733CFPA11242M
    Version = SS03
    TCON Board = 404652FHDSCLV0.0

    It's probably set up for a different LCD panel. Can you go into the service menu and find your panel model.

      The panel is 52, looks the worst on that setting.

        Re: Did I buy a bad Samsung main board? TCON Gamma values included

        Shopjimmy does indicate that the mainboard is a suitable substitute

        Part Number: BN94-01199L
        MFR Part Number 1: Samsung BN94-01199L
        Board Number(s): BN41-00843D, BN97-01415N
        Substitute Parts: BN94-01199F, BN94-01199M, BN94-01199C
        Panel Sticker Number: LTA520HB04

        I'll assume you LCD panel does match the above number.

        Is the Tcon at the bottom of the set and if so have you checked there's no water on the slim circuit board which connects between the Tcon and the panel.

          You have to get the correct Main Bd. Return that other Main Bd. the Seller made you buy. Get the Correct Part No. The L and the C must mean some difference. Ask for a refund as soon as you can.

            My panel Sticker is LTA520HB04.

            So if the chart pasted from shopjimmy is correct, the board should match the set.
            The TCON is at the TOP of the set, and there is/was no water in the set.

            Maybe the main board is just bad. Do the TCON numbers look normal?

            "Part Number: BN94-01199L
            MFR Part Number 1: Samsung BN94-01199L
            Board Number(s): BN41-00843D, BN97-01415N
            Substitute Parts: BN94-01199F, BN94-01199M, BN94-01199C
            Panel Sticker Number: LTA520HB04"

              On the surface the gamma voltages appear to be OK but you could double check using the gamma checking program at post #9

                i don't see any pictures that you indicate are "attached". You might try disconnecting one tcon to panel cable at a time and see if this changes the situation any (assuming you put the proper panel number in the SM).

                    That kind of display or 'Oil painting' display is usually cured by changing the Panel setting via Service mode on the Main Bd. which you were doing. Are you sure you are trying all the options?

                      Double check all your cable connections and that the LVDS cable ends are clean and that the gold contacts have not lifted.
                      When inserting the LVDS cables flip open the plastic tabs, insert the cable, lock down the plastic tab to secure cable by pressing it back down.

                          Double checked and cleaned / reset all cable connections.
                          Confirmed all are clean, no lifted pins, no bent pins, all seated well.
                          No luck there.
                          .
                          Also tried connecting first just the left, then just the right side cables off of the TCON. Result was solid white screen for whichever side was disconnected, while connected side had same picture issue as before.
                          .
                          Tried again all panel settings in service mode. No luck there. Slightly better picture when panel set to 40AM compared to 52AM, but not usable.
                          .
                          Also tried settings such as Lvds TX Fmt and Tx Bit...but found no improvements.
                          .
                          Thanks

                            try setting it for black and white viewing and if good try adding colour . just turning contrast down might help a little ..

                              Thanks for suggestions, but no luck.
                              Turned down contrast and color settings as low as possible, but it did not help.

                                did you follow the suggestion and check your gamma voltages with the spread sheet?

                                what other panel options are displayed / available?

                                still further, when you mae changes in the service menu, is there a "reset / save sequence" that you need to follow to cause the changes to "move" to the various "store" areas (ie. "active" versus "save").

                                can post a picture of your panel label?

                                lastly, I would read thru this avsforum as there is lots around this type of set and how samsung "massage" things throughout its production. what firmware is in your set?

                                  Do a firmware update/reapply.

                                      you put new MB to the set which it had other type. if you don't have the info on yours original S.mode of MB. then only replace the eeprom from old one to the new or make dump to it and flash it to the new on.

                                        - Checked the Gamma values with the TCon spreadsheet v1.1, there is at least one set of errors in the formulas in the sheet on the Detailed Results tab - formulas in Column B22 and downwards are off by one...once I fixed that, it passed the Monotonicity Test. Overall it says it passes, but in the Symmetry test the last two values say fail...yet...I'm not sure the formulas are correct there too - they cell formulas change pattern right at that cell.

                                        - Attached pic of Panel label

                                        - working in service mode, changes take affect within 3-5 seconds after selection. I've tried pretty much all settings possible to see if they would have any effect

                                        - I checked out the part of the entries in the AVS forum link, I did not find anything I could use there yet, but have not read every one of the hundreds of entries yet...will take some time.
