2011 sylvania lcd tv stuck in channel scan mode

Very odd....turn tv on and it just shows preprogrammed channels scanning in upper right corner

No picture

No buttons on tv respond other than power

Now...if i hit and hold power button the channel scan stops and the picture comes but once i let go of power button tv powers off and when powered back on the channel scan continues

Any ideas?

Im going to take tv apart tomorrow and check the channel power button board....

Seems to be common on sylvania emerson lcd tvs ...

You could have a bad channel button, try unpluging the board with the push buttons from the main board and see if the scanning stops.
If the buttons are across the resistor ladder, if one button goes resistive, it can activate a function, ie: channels scanning, volume going up/down, menu poping up etc.

tv is working now rj

took tv apart and took power button board out and just toggled channel down button about 100 times and now it works

may be faulty //sticky....but seems to be ok now....tv powers on fine and no ghost channel scanning anymore lol

one question though...with power button/ir board disconnected how would you be able to power tv on??? if tv is on and you disconnect the board from main would tv still stay on ?

I would replace all those micro-switches with new ones if they are as they do become faulty after a while.

thanks but the tv not a tv i use just one i got for free

so as long as it works now thats all i care about..if it does it again in future i would then replace board or the switches....the board on this tv is hard to find and very expensice...$25

normally these power button boards are on ebay for well less than $10

that tells me its a common issue...on this model tv....using this boARD

These buttons should be easy to find, check your scrap. or order new ones. If it is just the one button, then remove it and use the remote. Also once the tv is on, if you unplug the board the tv will stay on.

did not know the buttons were universal?

i have tons of scrap power button boards.....and am not fmialir with removal procedure...will have to look into it if i decide to do that but for now tv is working fine so ....but good to know for future use during troubleshooting

I put a drop of 90% isopropyl alcohol on the buttons and work it in.

Yes. The micro-switches are universal. IPA is OK but I prefer to use a drop of WD40 or LPS 1 or any such light penetrating lubricant.
