Samsung PS51D8000 plasma - no power at all

Hi all,

My Samsung PS51D8000 plasma TV suddenly has no power whatsoever. It worked fine yesterday and when I turned on the TV at the plug socket this morning, there was nothing. Not even a red light on the front panel. I've replaced the plug fuse (10 A) to no avail. I've removed the back of the set to check for bulging capacitors or blown fuses but can't see anything obvious. There is only one fuse that I can see and it's connected in a way I've never seen before - I am not sure how to even remove it! I've attached a photo of it.

I plugged in the TV with the back removed to see if I could see any power indicators light up on the boards, but again nothing at all. It's completely dead. I'd like to replace the 8 A fuse as a first step if anyone can tell me how the hell to remove the bugger, but other than that is there anything else I can do without completely replacing the power board? It seems to be a Samsung PB5FA (BN44-00446A) and I can't find any for sale in the UK.

I know it might sound like a dumb question but are you sure you got right power in the wall outlet? If so you have to use miltimeter to test it, check fuse or voltage goes to the board. It might be filter between tv socket and PS board that might be faulty. Without multimeter will be difficult to find out what is going on.
Fuse is soldered so if you want to replace it you have to desolder existing one first.

Not much point replacing the board fuse first unless you know it's blown. If it is then the board is likely to have a fault which caused it like a pair of shorted out MOSFETs.The two main rectifying bridges also may be showing short too..

Now I just recently had one of these and I replaced my blown FETs and some capacitors and it still failed after a short time 1 - 4 hrs.

Gave up and eventually found a used board. Unless you can solder you're not going to replace that fuse and if you have not worked that out then frankly I think board replacement would be the safest option.

How does Shopjimmy pan out for the UK for shipping?

There's a few on Ebay UK, is 54 GBP economical?

Was the fuse open? Look for shorted mosfets in the primary section.

Also note that the D series has serious problems with main boards

How long should I leave the unit unpowered to ensure capacitors are safely discharged? There is no hard power switch to drain them.

Great, I wonder whose wonderful idea that was?

Guess I should look for a replacement board but I am not sure I'm confident enough to work out that the board itself is the problem.

You could always try to see if you have test patterns that would determine if the main board is faulty

What do you mean test patterns? I can't show anything on the TV screen since it won't power up.

One thing at a time.
Check the continuity of the fuse.
Anyway post clear big photo of the board, each side.
