The tv is now fine. The "uneventful" means that there is no big deal. It is very easy to remove the side tabs on sets that don't have side edge boards which make access to the tabs a bit more difficult. Thanks and take care.

yes the side tabs on the left side (from the front) are gone. The TV is operating fine. I don't have much experience with what to expect under a tab so I didn't want to play any more with the bottom left tab as you suggested. I was worried that I would cause even more issue and result in a totally failed set. I now have a set that operates fine for the time being. A 70 in sharp that I removed the faulty side tabs for is now 2.3 years old and running fine. The neighbor / owner thanks me every day for saving the tv for him (and his wallet).

I haven't tested all the visual features (ie. 120 hz refresh, motion enhance, etc), but visually for normal viewing, the picture is fine. There may be some difference across the screen in terms of uniformity of brightness but not significant for regular viewing.

Although the photo doesn't do the display justice, this is the end result of the tv used as a monitor via hdmi in from a windows tabletpc. The display is as sharp as a normal monitor of this size.

Thanks, I am sure that there may be some way to fix the set as per your video but I wasn't willing to play with it any further and end up with a worse situation. My soldering skills / equipment aren't the best. Anyways, it has potential for some one else to try... maybe you since you indicated you have a 60 in with similar problem... good luck.

i have no 10ohm resistor!! Bad bad...! Maybe i will try with 2 22ohm in parallel.. what a poor...
