Have you tried to swap strips (one that lights for one that doesn't)? You might be able to zero in on a possible bad connection/strip. The circuit for these backlights actually goes from one to another - one break in a connection will kill the whole circuit.

Thanx for the reply.. Yea, I swapped around the LED strips and also used my LED tester and confirmed that all 5 of the strips are fully functional...

So this CORRECT power supply board picture was also installed in ANOTHER VIZIO E420i and it works?
But no matter what, this board also has two LED driver circuits so the Voltage (V out1, V out2) at the Anode of each string should be > 100V, but per your measurement, one does not really have any output at all.

Re: VIZIO E420i LED Strip Issue

Apologies for the delays... My TV shop is only open on the weekends and I usually take mondays off..

I am going to set up the working E420i right next to the non working one and compare voltages...

Give me about 5 mins to set it up..

Re: VIZIO E420i LED Strip Issue

              OK....

I have both E420s side by side...

              Voltages as pictured..

              FULL WORKING
              1- 3.3v
              2- 78.3v
              3- 5.1v
              4- 117.2v

              OUTER LEDs OFF
              1- .2v
              2- 92v-98v
              3- 5.2v
              4-113v

I swap the boards and there are minor discrepancies. On the full working unit, the voltages are about 1 volt off... On the unit with the outer LED strips off, the voltage on #2 is about 64-67 volts instead of 92-98 volts...

Re: VIZIO E420i LED Strip Issue

                SOLVED!!!!

I got in a 3rd E420i that had a LED Strip issue.. Turns out it was a simple replace the strip fix... Replaced 3 strips that had bad LEDs and it was golden..

But, since I had it broke down, I decided to test some different parts on the one that was giving me nosebleeds.....

I replaced the green power strip... No difference.... Wracking my brain and looking over it all, the *ONLY* part I haven't swapped out is the small connector that goes from the Power PCB to the green LED Power Strip...

Swapped that out and SOME BEACH!!!! It worked!!!!

                So, problem solved!!

Thanx to all who chimed in...

Glad to hear it is working, those SMD connector has poor mechanical support.

Yea, it's weird.. I cleaned the connections on that bad cable and plugged it in and it worked.. But then I tried it again a few mins later and it didn't..

Thinking I'll either rewire the thing or just order a new one...

But it's really kewl.. THREE working VIZIO 42" LED SMART TVs...

                    Thanx again...

It's really SOOO nice, repair wise, when you have multiples of the exact model..

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
                        by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                        Assuming...

Vizio M65Q7-H1 Red Vertical Strips fixed by tape blocking LC1 signal to half of the panel

                        Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

                        Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...

                        Hi There!
I'm trying to help my friend who owns a restaurant be just bought.
He has a very long LED strip running along all the walls and columns. The strip is attached facing down 2in above the floor, using a wall panel that ends in a metal rail that finishes the panel underneath
It's stuck using, I guess, the 2 sided tape that comes with the strip
The issue is that like 1/2 of the full length, including 1/2 one wall, another entire wall, and one column, flickers after 4 or 5 minutes ON. Particularly it flashes staying OFF most of the time and flashing ON for 1 tenth...

                        by Mectronik
Hello, I'm working on a Vizio m601d-a3 with a backlight issue that I am having a difficulty diagnosing it. As it sits, the tv powers on, displays the Vizio symbol and with nothing hooked up it will then display no signal but you can only see half of the screen. I know it's a back light issue because the picture is there without light behind it, as I can see it by doing a light test. I've taken off the paneling and done a visual inspection. If I disconnect the tcon ribbon cable to the affected side then the entire half of the screen goes away. I've checked voltages at the LED driver from the main...

Got this TV free. Guy said it tries to turn on and doesn't. I haven't seen this specific issue before but shown in video. Any way to test the screen to rule it out on these Vizio? Or anyone seen this issue before?

                        Any help appreciated
