Philips 55pus6581 stuck on logo yet sound plays

Good day folks. A pretty complicated and strange issue with this new generation Philips TV: it gets stuck on the Philips logo, yet by mashing the joystick at the back, I was somehow able to get sound to play - don't know how and don't know WHAT exactly was playing since there were no cables plugged into the thing, probably a demo or something. This being a rather new model, there's no servicing help for it - no service manuals, no dumps, nothing, so I'm pretty stuck.

One thing I did try was to update its firmware via USB: got the update package from Philips, put it onto a flash drive, insert it into the TV, the LED on the flash drive DOES indicate some activity for around one minute, but still nothing. Either the TV is waiting for my command to hit an "OK" or "start" button on screen or something, or it's failing to load the file entirely. I tried doing it "blindly" by waiting for the flash drive to stop flashing and then hit OK on the remote or the joystick on the back (hoping the cursor would be on the "start upgrade" button), but the remote doesn't do anything for one (the red LED at the front isn't flashing), while the physical joystick DOES make the LED flash but doesn't seem to do anything, or at least I can't see what I'm selecting....this sucks big time...

Asking for a dump or something would be pointless, since Philips TVs are usually programmed via that U-SERV connector at the back and a special box which I don't have, so I'm afraid this one is pretty dead, but I was hoping someone might happen to own this TV or at least have some idea as to what's supposed to come on screen when you insert the drive containing the firmware so I can try it blindly again....if I need to navigate menus to get to the "check for updates" option, it's bad news.

It's probably done over that SERV.U connector on the back, which after a bit of searching apparently has a GND on the middle pin and TX/RX on the pins on either side, so that looks like a serial interface. I've always wondered what that port is for but never looked too deep into it really...

UPDATE: have tried this to the smallest detail and amazingly it worked to a degree, in that I AM able to get the ADB console to connect to the IP address of the TV, but that's it: I get the device offline message when I try to send any commands to it and also its folder folder tree is empty in the TotalCommander thingy so it's like the memory got wiped entirely...

This TV also bridges the gaps between TVs and mobile devices, since it's a TV running an Android operating system, so really this belongs in the mobile device category where I might get help from android gurus....

Hi, i don't understand the content of your last post's link, but if your mainboard have a flash parallel eprom and a serial spi flash 25cxxx then i think you probably have a bad standby sw, so since maybe different models can have equal standby sw, one try is to grab another Philips model's mainboard, read the content of its 25cxxx, read & save the content of 25cxxx on broken tv, upload the first 25c sw to the broken one and try it. But since this is a long task to do and you need a few dollars ebay eeprom programmer, you can read some other's Philips service man. at the page of the upgrade, there are some "recovery" ways to upgrade tv. two example SM that i have: 46pfl9706m, 47pfl6008s. Bye

Ok, I must admit I wasn't too specific: that link discusses how you can IN THEORY mess with the TV's firmware via ADB, which controls it from your computer when you can't do it directly. You're supposed to wipe the TVs memory first by putting one of the provided files onto a flash drive and then execute that file via the TVs recovery menu which is exactly like the one found on android tablets and phones. Trouble is I can't access this menu: supposedly you hold DOWN on the joystick on the back when applying power and the recovery menu would appear which would allow me to run that "wiper" file and reset the TV to its factory settings. Since this didn't work for me and for others, the article also describes how to send that "reboot to recovery" command via ADB.

The way this is supposed to work (and it worked for me too up to a point too) is you'd connect to the TV via its LAN port, and the way I did that was by connecting both my laptop and the TV to a router, obtain the TVs IP address and use the ADB command prompt to send a "connect to <TV IP ADDRESS>". While that worked, I could not move past that point, since every command I tried afterwards returned a "device offline" message, despite saying it was successful when connecting. It's at this point I was supposed to send the "reboot recovery" command so I could access that recovery menu and execute the file that's on the USB drive - didn't work.

Another way I tried it was by using TotalCommander which is the same ADB deal but with a graphical interface, so I could double click on the TV to connect to it and theoretically view what's stored on its memory without having to use a command prompt. Again, while I was able to connect to its IP, the memory appeared to be blank: no files whatsoever, when in reality it's supposed to look like THIS. In my case, that window is blank so either I'm doing something wrong or there's something more severe going on than a corrupted software. Cheers.

ALSO: I do have a programmer available and have used it extensively to "treat" other TVs

Problem is some of these programs often require you to install something on the device itself (the TV in my case) or to enable developer options, which I can't do because I can't see anything.
