Only possibility I can think of is one breaking down under load. Or perhaps you got dodgy IGBTs first time, or thermal mounting not perfect?

Not the IGBTs. All OEM originals off scrap boards, at least 3 different sets and types. Not the driver ICs either.

I'll ake them to work and put a cpacitance meter on them and see if anything reveals itself

out of curiosity, i would check the resistance on the ceramics and heat them with the rework to see if any of them drop there resistance when they heat up.

        just a thought.
WHY CAN'T PHILIPS USE PHILLIPS HEAD SCREWS?

Yeah, I going to try and get hold of a capacitance meter and do that. I'm really curious

Could not get heat on these but doing a capacitance measurement with a fluke showed nothing remarkable. All the caps were comparative to others identical in the mix and the electros 150uf were 143 - 147uf.

and it's still working, anyway I'm moving on

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

Sega Dreamcast NTSC-U Revision 0 Launch Unit GD ROM PCB Board Short
              by sfernandes
              Hi everyone,

Symptom: When I press the power button the power LED lights up for a second and the fan etc spins for a second then the unit turns itself off and will not do the same thing again unless I unplug the power cable for a few minutes then plug it back in otherwise if I just turn the power switch off and back on right after it comes on for a second it will not come on again unless like I said unplug the power cord for a few minutes then plug it back in.

What I have done to try to isolate the issue so far:

The system powers on and stays on with...

Need help pinpointing my short on this board (Lenovo) NM-D351
              by survivalbloke
This is a Lenovo Thinkpad P15s Gen 2 with a board NM-D351. I'm having trouble finding my dead short to ground. I have the area narrowed down after much probing. You'll see in the boardview, there are two coils involved. I removed those coils and verified that that short is not on the mosfet side of those coils. . You'll see an arrangement on both sides of the board of 5 caps and one smaller one to the side. I have removed ALL 12 of these small caps and still have the short. Prior to that I injected at those caps with 1v5a and the short was only drawing 800ma so I could not see anything on thermal....

A2681 MacBook Air 13" Short on board question.
              by Stephen
The board turned on before hand but it was liquid damaged, I was able to fix some of the issue with the board, but the battery wasn't charging and so we replaced a few caps and still no luck, swapped out 4 batteries to see if the batteries were bad, and they were all good batteries after final testing. I checked for voltage at PPBUS_AON and no voltage was present which was odd, so I went ahead and replaced U5200 with a new chip since this has something to do with the charging issue and power issue. Replaced but no life still, so went ahead and look for shorts and found an odd area that is shorted...

Macbook 820-02773 Board short when trackpad connected
              by MalodicOne
Original fault was customer spilled milk on unit, no corrosion was found on the board. Took mainboard out of original case and LCD and swapped it into the fully functioning case and LCD.

Shorts show up all over the board when trackpad is connected only. Trackpad is used and fully functioning from another unit of same model. Voltage injection causes trackpad connector to get hot but nothing else, swapped on board connector to rule that out, same issue. Diode reading on IPD_MCU_INT_CONN is higher then reference board @ .935 expected is .803. Shorts show up on PPVBAT_AON_CHGR_REG and...
