Re: Sony 42w653a
So it uses an external power supply to power the internal combined mainboard/power supply.
There appear to be a number of fuses marked on the board. Have you located and checked each one.
Have you checked the incoming voltage from the external power supply is 19.5V when connected to the tv.Last edited by dick_barton; 08-25-2017, 01:17 PM.Willing to help but I'm no expert.

Re: Sony 42w653a
I'm armed with a multimeter,I know you ground the black and test with the red,set to dc volts
To test the fuses, set switched off and meter set to ohms, place your red and black probe on each side of the fuse and it should measure 0 ohms or close enough for a good fuse.Willing to help but I'm no expert.

Re: Sony 42w653a
Voltage, yes the set needs to be plugged in, else you'd measure zero.
Ohms, no. Some cheap meters can be damaged by measuring ohms when voltage is applied. Most are okay, just not the very cheapest. In any instance, it will not give you an accurate reading. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!
