    Samsung UN50EH5000 Double Image

A customer brought this set in yesterday, the problem is that most of the picture (except for the top several inches) is jittering up and down, making it look like a double image. I've attached a photo. I'm wondering if this is a panel issue, and for this reason: I also have a Vizio E55-C1 with a very similar problem, and just tried replacing the T-con board but it made no difference. That leaves only the mainboard or the panel, and I don't want to gamble time and money on mainboards if there's a good chance the panels are bad.
Has anyone seen this problem before and might be able to give me some advice?

    my money is on panel.

give the bezel a twist and see if it effects the picture.

I have also seen this be the main board. Just with Samsung Smart TVs. The CPU gets broken solder joints and putting pressure on the main board in different directions makes it get better.

I'm with Shane711, I've repaired a number of Samsung TVs showing similar by giving the main processor a reflow on the main board.

            Re: Samsung UN50EH5000 Double Image

I wish I could get the hang of the reflow I think my mistake is that I have a IR top heating and air is better. I will try again when I get caught up on all my work because I have over 200 TVs to fix.

So what I do when I fix these Samsung TV is I will put those thermal pads under the board and on top the board. I have 1 TV I keep in my bedroom, it is a 40" Samsung Smart TV but I replaced the main board from a 46". I have the entire bottom of the board covered with the pads I removed from broken plasma TVs and on top I have a huge heat sink on the CPU, the heat sink is about 3 inches wide and 2 inches tall. I had to cut one end on an angle so the back cover would fit on the TV. So there is a thermal pad under the heat sink on the CPU and a thermal pad on top the heat sink stuck to the metal back cover. Plus I have a cooling fan blowing across the board. But I will need to open and back up and do an upgrade, my cooling fan is connected by a resistor that gets very hot so I need to upgrade to these little control boards I started using which are adjustable. I will have to take pictures but here is a picture of the LM317 DC-DC step-down DC converter I use on all my TVs and whatever I want to install a fan on. I can buy these for $0.60 each and that is an awesome deal considering what I can do with them.

Take a look at the T-CON Bd. If there are two (2) flat cables going from the T-CON Bd to the panel remove one side and turn on the TV. See if the half screen show the problem. Re-connect that side and disconnect the next side and turn on TV. see if the half screen show a single image. The side that show the single/normal half screen is the good side. the other side is where your problem lies. I will further describe the 'cut-off' method to fix your screen. BTW does this TV carry side Tabs?

                Re: Samsung UN50EH5000 Double Image

I can tell you that for Samsung UN40D6000SF, UN46D6000SF, UN40C630K1F, LN46C650L1F the problem is the main board over heating and the CPU breaking connection from the board. Because of the side effects you might think it is a bad panel but not the case with these TVs. Not denying that you might have a bad panel but you first need to check the main board by applying pressure in various directions to the board and CPU.

The Samsung UN50EH5000 does not have the same board so it may not have this problem as with the models I mentioned. But it is a problem that needs to be considered with every TV.

Here are pictures of my Samsung UN40C630K1F with a LN46C650L1F Main Board. Yes the board is compatible because it has been working for over 1 year so far. You may say this is over kill but everything I used was salvaged from junk TVs. But now that I have it opened I will put $0.60 into it when I install the LM317 DC-DC step-down DC converter and remove (the resistor which I am afraid will catch fire).

From Shane: "I will have to take pictures but here is a picture of the LM317 DC-DC step-down DC converter I use on all my TVs "
Why you use those?? It's a linear regulator, it is not so performant, take those switching ones that have more than 80% efficiency and give more current (max 5A i remember), they costs 70cent/euro. Search buck converter.

                    Re: Samsung UN50EH5000 Double Image

I tried one of those before and it just burnt up. Besides, you do not need a lot of amps for these fans and you do not want to take away amp power from your TV. I connect it to the power of the TV so I do not want to take too much or the TV may not function right. The converter I use has a max 2.2 Amp output which I will never need.

Do you have a picture of the one you use?

I did look it up and most of the ones I found say you have to add a heat sink. The ones I buy already come with a heat sink. So if I buy those it will cost more money and more time.

That link shows multiple choices, that is the exact web site I was just looking at. So you do not have a favorite? I have tested a few different ones and the one I choose has been working great for over 2 years. I have bought over 200 of them and only had 1 fail so far.

No i have bought only 1 buck and 1 boost but i use them only for testing purposes, without a bench PSU, so no continous use.

Here is an update. I removed that resistor and installed the LM317 DC-DC step-down DC converter. Now I just have to wait for the black silicone glue to dry and I can turn the TV on and adjust the speed of the fan. If anyone does something like this remember you do not need the fan to be going fast as long as there is a good air flow and a good heat sink it will work. Also if you got the fan speed high it will shorten the life of the fan. Some of the TVs I put these on are 17 VDC and that will burn the fan up so on those I preadjust the output voltage from the converter before connecting the fan.

                              Hello team,

I'm back with another tv and another problem.
I try to improve my knowledge on fixing TV, and all technics used until now are not fixing correctly the problem.

First, reboot issue, I use tape Method to find out the right side that cases the issue.
Then using this it's working for quite 1hour30, then at some point of time the image became double on the bottom for half the screen.
Then double image reduce in height and move to the top.
The image is like folded on around 1cm and the bottom has been moved to the top by 1cm.
                              When I...

tv had backlight on, sound working - responds to the remote control but no image.

check tcon board - had 12v in but no other voltages present.
when disconnected left ribbon cable - got back voltages and half image with lines and distorsion

when leaving only left side connected - again no voltages and no image.

put a tape on all (cd?! lines) on the left ribbon cable and got complete but distorted image (horizontal lines).

kept trying to block less pins on the left ribbon cable...

Before I took the set apart, I started to see a double image come on after the set is powered on for a few minutes. (attachment #1).

I came across this YouTube video, which seemed to describe a very similar phenomenon from what I was seeing. (In summary, the video suggests unplugging one cable, and using a small clear piece of tape to cover various...
