VIZIO P50 HDTV20A Plasma Distortion on Screen

The set has distortion like the text showing the channel is in a slight zig-zag patter, also an occasional flickering on the entire screen.
There are 12 capacitors bulged on the power supply board and in testing the voltage it was low from 1 -2 volts below what it should be on all but the 24 volt. Could that cause the issues I'm seeing on the screen?

    we can't see any issue!

replace all of those caps and see if that changes your fault.

I'll phrase it another way. Would low power cause display problems like the ones I described?
If the answer is a definite NO why put money in it right? Thanks.

The answer is most likely the caps are causing ripple feeding into your control boards and creating problems with picture
I assume no responsibility for any stupid suggestions I might post.

you can not even start to look for any other issue till you have sorted the ones that you know about.

as far as to what the tv is worth to you, i'm afraid that only you can answer that question.

YES! Start there. Change the 12 bad caps then do some voltage tests if it doesnt clear the fault.

Re: VIZIO P50 HDTV20A Plasma Distortion on Screen

I replaced 12 obviously bad caps. The voltage is 4.56 for 5, 11.1 for 12 and 22.2 for 24. Not as good as I had hoped. The picture is no better either. I've uploaded a video because the issue is hard to describe. The bright and dimming you see is actual and the close ups show the distortion and blur.

Any ideas about where to start and where to junk it?

post pics of the whole back of the set and of each board. in particular, pic of control board.

hopefully we can run the test patterns and narrow it down.

                        which board is that?

the control board is the one in the last pic. you normally jumper auto-ext-gen
(but i'm unsure of the way it is done on this board), and remove the lvds cable. that is the one that goes from the control board to the main board. then apply power and you should get test patterns. if the fault is still present, then it is most likely your control board and if it has a clean picture, then it is your main board causing the picture issue.

hopefully someone that knows this control board and let us know of the jumper set up.

This one, I think its called the Z board sometimes.
I'll look auto-ext-gen and see if I can do that diagnostic. It would be very helpful if some one knew that control board. Thanks for your help.

I see it the EXT_AUTO_GEN. It has 4 pins on it, so I don't want to go poking around without a map. Here is a picture.

Okay I found this thread that told me how to jump EXT_AUTO_GEN and get a test pattern.
                              https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=57818

I took a video of the test. The pattern was snowy and the bright flashing was still there on some patterns although not as bad. Near the end of the video notice the text in the corner of the screen. It is from a local TV station WSBT and it's like it was burned in, for lack of a better description. FYI I can get a good control board on ebay shipped for $6.99.

can you show a pic of how you did the jumper, so others that see this can have the information as well.

from the vid, i would say that the control board is good and you are looking at a main board issue.

the burn in can probably be reduced by running a white wash pattern over it for a while, but you will need to check your voltages since you have changed out the x-main. first, you will need to get a good pic though.

I'll edit a picture to show the jumper set up. From what you told me the test patter must have been okay? It wasn't as clear as I expected it might be.
So the board in this picture is the main board correct.

the main is the one that you have indicated.

Panasonic Plasma screen interference on left half of screen
                                          by Zelek11
My Panasonic Plasma model P55VT50 has started displaying "interference" on just the left half of the screen only (left when facing the screen). Sometimes it's concentrated in about the first 30 seconds after startup, then disappears. Other times it's fine at startup and then randomly does it later on. When it flashes the interference it's very quick and doesn't stay on the screen unless it flashes repeatedly in a row.

This image is a screen shot from a video I took. This is an example of the interference at its worst. Often the interference is much smaller...

                                          Good guys.
I have this problem with this Dell notebook, it has that distortion on the screen as you can see in the photo. has it ever happened to you?

I present the tests and measurements that I already did:

I tried with another screen and it does the same thing, I also put this screen on another one and it looks perfect.

I checked the LVDS flex that goes to the display and it is perfect
Through HDMI output the image looks perfect

                                          All power lines were measured...

My first real post...I have a Vizio M557-G0 where the left 1/3 of the screen fades to nearly black then not and I can view the entire screen and whatever is playing on the TV. Very rhythmic. Other than that sound is good, rest of picture is perfect. Opened up the back and did see any bubbled capacitors. Is it an LED backlight issue. I have factory reset it twice. Any insights appreciated. Hope the pic comes thru and shows the issue.
                                          Thank you.

Vizio P659-G1 Screen Removal / Backlight Replacement
                                          by bstewara
                                          Hi All,
Has anyone had the experience of replacing backights on the “P” series Vizio tv?
                                          Model number P659-G1
This type tv has a very small bezel holding the screen in and I’m not sure how the bezel/screen is assembled. ( I’m hoping the screen is not epoxied to the frame)
Before I attempt this I thought maybe someone on this forum has performed this backlight replacement procedure.

                                          Thanks in advance...

panasonic TH-42PC77U plasma television half screen problem
                                          by renech
                                          hello,
I hope someone on this forum can assist me.
                                          I have a panasonic TH-42PC77U plasma television.
the lower 1/2 of the screen has become flaky....in and out, then finally goes black and you can only see the top portion.
i have performed the reset to default settings quite a few times. Panasonic recommended..did not believe this would help...it didn't.
I have removed the back panel and looked around for something obvious...burn marks in a board, etc....nothing obvious...
I have read some posts that suggest the problem is related to the boards on the left...
