Sony KDL-50W700B _ Amber / Green blinks.

I swore I'd never touch a sony but I have.

Don't know the full story because I've been had a little, could be a bad panel to boot.

Described as Backlights, sound , no picture.

get it home, turns on, has half picture which seems perfect, right half, pure white.

Ok, nice surprise, expect it's a bad T-con. Climb inside and start to notice evidence someone's been in before, get to the TCon and ribbon disconnected from right side.

Ok, this is not good. Hook it up and I get , Backlights, sound , no picture..

so I try heat, try freeze and no change except now left side comes on looks ok for a moment and then get some vertical bands mainly green and red.

Fearing bad panel but I move on.

get another Tcon (used) but realise it's from an 800B, looks the same.

But it's not. very close

Both panels to my knowledge are T500HVF04, could be a revision difference.

So now with the new tcon, the backlight flashes for an instant and then I get amber/green blinking.

Read about firmware upgrades after replacement boards, but I can't get it to load / work.

really don't know what I'm doing .

So , Sony experts, Is this normal after a board replacement? Is there a workaround? Can a faulty TCon cause it?

What exactly is this indicating? failed bootup?

I thought I'd be smart and swap the falsh chp acropss from the original TCon but same problem.

I've put the original Tcon back turns on , with bad image.

have you had a look at the ceramic caps on the panel driver board and while your there you can give the tabs a poke.

You mean disassemble the panel frame. No I have not. What am I looking for with the caps?

Have you had some sony experience? It an AU Optronics panel

shorted caps.

i have done a few tab bond patches and t-can swaps, that is all that i can think of, off of the top of my head.

Ok, I have good news and very bad news. To get the TV to fire up with this different tCON, eeprom swap. I did the flash chip but did not recognise a small 8 pin at the input. Swapped that and no more conflict.

Initially the panel looked perfect, turned it off, hooked up the antenna looked ok then noticed horizontal lines then a dark spot botom right corner which I had not seen before and before you know it the picture was gone and the a glowing red / yellow mess.

Not knowing much about these but shorted panel I think. Disconnect the right ribbon and what do you know back to perfect left side.

Tcon is probably getting cooked by the panel. Pity the seller was not more honest about this, probably got screwed themselves. Looks like a parts TV now. get some pics up to amuse some of you

still worth a look over those ceramic caps just in case. you might get lucky.

Maybe, right side is definitely loading the TCON as it's buzzing untill I disconnect it then quiet. Also small blue area like broken panel. Can't see a crack then had a close look at the bezel and i think someone put the wrong bolt in from behind and screwed it into the panel from behind.

less than 3 years old, would have kept it with all th eapps and wifi etc

pull the panel out and look towards a light source. panel crack will become very evident if that is the case.
