I have a sony kdl-70w840b only 1.5 years old.
Few weeks ago it suddenly started acting up. When you turn it on it would stay on for few seconds and then turn off and give 4 blinking red lights. I bought a used t-con from a tv shop and installed it but when I did it gave me a black screen with flashing orange and green lights.
So I downloaded the latest firmware from Sony and put it onto a USB drive and plugged it into the TV. It updated but when I turn it on there is no picture (black screen) with a steady green light for few seconds and then goes to flashing red light 5 times.
So then I plugged in the old tcon and it also flashed orange and green and so I plugged in the USB again and downloaded the firmware. Now when I turn it on it gives a screen with vertical lines and I noticed the tcon makes a weird noise and the processor chip on the tcon gets very hot.
But I realised that the new tcon I bought came with ribbon cables that are shorter than the original ones so Im guessing that the tcon came from a smaller size tv. My friend told me that a replacement part should come from the same model tv (including size) or else it wont work. Is this true? Is that why im getting 5 blinking red light? Or am I looking at a bad screen? Any information and advice is greatly appreciated.
