Ok.....here's something else I just noticed. Before, I could never access the menu because I had no picture. I thought I'd access the menu to see if there were any "light errors" and if so, I'd erase them. I held down input and volume down while plugging in the tv and noticed the following. The back of the tv lists model number LC-70LE733U but the service menu lists model number LC-70LE633U. Where is this model number generated from? could this have been the TV's problem all along?

      T-con pics.

Who would you recommend for parts?

I would just start checking the obvious transistors and mosfets for shorts or open fuses. You do know that Sharp LCD panels can represent themselves with hours of operating properly and then all it takes is just a little short on one of those ribbons for the horizontal driver's and Wham-O there goes your Tcon. Then you replace the t-con and it works fine again for a little bit. I've already been through this. Unfortunately for you if it is the panel it's going to be hard because it's just going to keep blowing tcons. and it's time based.

So in essence you either have a bad tcon that you had repaired or purchased or a panel that's a tcon after a certain amount of time. Trying to make out what you were talking about earlier did this company repair or replace your t con board? And also since the back panel says it's a different model and year for certain that your main board has not changed I would say somebody has been into this tv before changing out boards.

If your tcon was repaired and not replaced you should be able to locate the area that they repaired. It'll look like shiny solder amongst all the other connections.

The main board was checked and found to be working correctly in their test facility by pts electronics. I take their word for it since had they wanted to they could have charged me for the repair and I probably wouldn't have been able to tell the difference but they only charged me the test fee. They were unable to test any of the other boards. The tcon came from a company that removes parts from damaged TV's, Shop Jimmy. I had ordered from them before to repair a Panasonic plasma. According to the manuals I've downloaded the tv has the correct boards by part number.

Then I would only think that somebody replace the mainboard from another TV at one point being a lesser model. This would not be Factory from sharp like this. I would say somebody's been into this TV before and possibly for the same problem if your main board is different than the model number Tag to the back.

Did you pick up this TV broken or was this your's from the beginning

              Re: Sharp 70" model LC-70LE733U 2-5 blinks

I picked it up broken with the key phrase being......"it doesn't come on any more." First time I plugged it in it flashed the 2/5 code with no picture, no backlighting. the manual says 2/5 is a power issue so I threw a power board at it, no effect. Then a cheap tcon I got from ebay $35, no effect. I then threw an ebay power board at it and for the first time I got backlights but a 1/1 code, that's when I decided to have the original main board tested by PTS, they said it was okay and suggested that the tcon was the problem, that's when I decided to purchase a tcon from somewhere other than ebay. It seems really strange that when it's working the picture is perfect, it looks nothing like the TV's that need the tabs removed because they are shorted. If you look at my previous posts you'll even notice that my corner cables are yellow and all the others I've seen on here are white. I may throw one more tcon at it before I give up. I don't really have the experience to check these things at the component level with this surface mount technology.

as always thanks for your input,

              Pete

If I follow the thread correctly, the old / tested main which I think you are now using was perhaps changed in the service menu by the company to match their "test bed".

Did you look at the error counters yet?

Just forsake why don't you try disconnecting the ribbon cables from the panel to the t-con power up the TV and error bypass using the two key code combination and see if the back lights come up. We'll go from there.

And being that your corner cables and yellow instead of white, I have repaired these TVs with shorted side drivers that had the yellow cables as well. When I was referring to your panel possibly having shorting out the t-con I was saying that even though that picture looks good it doesn't necessarily mean that there could not be an intermittent problem the last person gave up on

I was able to look at the error counters Monday 4/10/17, there were two, I cleared them. The tv worked for 30 mins on the Pandora app then 30 mins on a DVD with no problems, by that time it was 1 a.m. and I turned it off.

Tues. I turned the tv on and about the time the wifi signal connected the tv went to the 2/5 code. I turned it off then on, it remained on for another 2 hrs when I turned it off.

Wednesday I turned the tv on and at least 3 or 4 times it turned it self off with the 2/5 code. I disconnected the left side tcon cable and the tv remained on for apprx. 45 mins. I then reconnected the left cable and disconnected the right cable, the tv again remained on for apprx 45 mins. I then reconnected the right cable turned on the tv and watched a 2 hr DVD, no problems.

Thursday.....I turned on the tv and once again about the time the tv connected to wifi it turned off with the 2/5 code, this occurred 3 to 4 times. I disconnected the left tcon cable once again.....the 2/5 code appeared about the time the backlights came on. I reconnected the left cable and disconnected the right cable, the 2/5 code once again came on about the time the backlights came on. I disconnected both cables and again, about the time the backlights come on the tv goes to the 2/5 code.....this is with BOTH tcon cables disconnected. This is pretty much the same issue the tv had when I first got it except now the backlights DO come on. When I first got the tv it would do nothing but flash the 2/5 code, no backlights and you could NOT enter the service mode by holding down input and volume down.

maybe indicate what errors the counters were associated with and where they are at now.

hmmm... you are not looking at the counters, you are looking at the "error log / occurrence"... kind of cryptic... I think. Look at the counters.

the one cause is associated with the tcon... T-CON FPGA status error and the other cause is associated with ... your guess... a panel error ... :-(

lastly, when you are in the service menu, did you check the settings for the model (as you questioned earlier) and also for the firmware version along with tcon version?

Right I agree those errors look to point to tcon failure. Possibly heat is a factor, like bad BAG conneconnections under a processor on tcon possibly

Now run the TV with both ribbons disconnected even though you won't see a picture run the TV as if the panel was connected the same way you were doing it before and see if the 2-5 error comes up. I'm half tempted to think that this is an erroneous error caused by a flaky tcon or mainboard but with this test we are going to eliminate the panel as a factor

Well, I didn't do so good finding any "counters" on the 26 pages of menu. I even tried highlighting the errors I had found and clicking on "enter" of the remote hoping that would reveal something but nothing. Page 25 I think it was did list 70LE633 as the model number. In fact.....except for a few flickers while i was in the service menu the tv worked just fine while watching another 2 hour dvd with some Pandora mixed in. On Thursday night the tv had gone into the 2/5 code with either the left or the right or even both tcon cables disconnected. I can't tell you how hot but, the CPU on the tcon gets very warm to the touch. I'm sure it's probably just a coincidence but it seems strange that the longer the tv has been on or I'd guess the hotter it it the better it works. It almost always the 2/5 code not long after it's been on the first time.

                                the adventure continues,

You know how when you back your car out of the driveway to go to work in the morning and every morning your car makes this certain noise? So, you finally schedule an appointment at the dealership but the morning you go to the dealership for your appointment it doesn't make the noise, they keep the car all day and you even ride with the technician and still no noise. that's kinda how this tv is.....it won't fail consistently. You might turn it on and it stay on five minutes before the code appears, you then might turn the tv on again and it stay on for fifteen minutes before the code comes back or like last Saturday the tv may stay on for 6 hours and never have a problem after it initially shut of twice in a row inside a fifteen minute period. So......i'll keep watching it like it is and see what happens. The picture is still great when viewing a Blu-ray or dvd, no blurring , no pixelation, no lines vertical or horizontal, no dark spots, nothing that would indicate a failing tab bond or other kind of "panel" issue. Although.....the day is probably coming when it will set the 2/5 code and won't rest, we'll see.......

Really glad I ran upon this post. I have and identical tv with the same exact issue the 2/5 code. No backlight, no picture. I have changed the power supply but with the same result. My next shot is the T-Con board. Was curious if you had anymore luck with your tv repair?

Well, I think I'm having fun. The mainboard people said tcon, the tcon people said main board so I tried another tcon. Unfortunately......this tcon was worse than the last one, the screen would barely show the "apps" before reverting to the 2/5 code so at most it was on for a few minutes. In the mean time I thought what the heck.....I'l throw a mainboard at it. I installed it last night. well, what do you know, no more 2/5 code but......now I have the 1/1 code. Thanks to one of the posts on this board I learned that with a 1/1 code you can push volume up/channel down while plugging in the tv and the tv will actually work normally unless the tv looses power. Again, unfortunately you cannot enter the onboard menu to clear any light errors. If you push input/channel down while plugging in the tv the icon on the fron of the tv lights up and very shortly after the backlights come on the screen goes blank and the icon flashes 1/1. I've had the tv on for several hours in this "bypassed" mode without incident. I installed my original power board, still 1/1. I installed my previous tcon, still 1/1. I have to believe the 1/1 is coming from the new main board and although I haven't disassembled and inspected the tv I believe the backlights to be working properly. I never had a 1/1 code with the previous mainboard/tcon configuration, it was always 2/5.

Ok, I'm new to the forum, but I've been reading the posts and I'm still having issues with my Sharp LC-70LE733u with the 2 long/5 short lights. I have replaced the main board, the power supply board and the LED address board with no success. Also, when I attempt to get into the diagnostics menu by holding the volume down and input buttons, it doesn't work. It went in one time and then would not repeat. I have a t-con board coming, so I'm getting a bit harried with this thing. Any other suggestions? By the way, I'm pretty technically adept as I build, repair and maintain PC's and laptops. Thanks for any help you can provide.

This thread is about trying to get an Universal Main Board to work with a Sharp TCON and panel.

I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. The universal main board supports a 8 bit dual channel LVDS interface whereas the TCON requires a 10 bit dual channel LVDS input. I have modded the LVDS connector to match...

Hi everyone. [Sorry for the long, detailed post in advance].

I have a Sharp LC-52E77UN which randomly shuts down--could be within 15 minutes, could be 40 minutes, over 1 hour, it's unpredictable. From reading the service manual, I was able to get into service mode (where the K is displayed), and found the following error flag toggled: "04 Initial Communication Error 4 -- Error reason: To the communication setting reception," which, from contacting an eBay TV repair store, I was told is caused NOT by a bad TCON (which was my first guess), but rather the motherboard....

Just bought this for 10 bucks yesterday hoping to fix it. The guy said water dropped inside from a dehumidifier hose and it started showing black and white vertical bars then went blank. When I got it home and turned it on it came on fine and displayed correctly but I was noticing faint vertical bars in the image. After a little bit I turned it off and back on and it was a black screen again. I opened it up to check for water damage and corrosion but didn't find anything of the sort. I cleaned the ribbons anyway and reconnected them but still got a blank screen. If I disconnect the right side...

                                            Hi There,

This TV was auto switching off after few seconds with some vertical lines on the screen, so got a new TCON board and replaced it.

After replacing the TCON board it was working fine and i set it up with everything, used for few hours, then had the bright idea to update the software on it. During the update process, TV switched off and now no audio or video. No relay switch sound.

                                            Hi community,

I will describe my problem with a TV in those short following terms to be the most precise :

                                            main logic board QPWBXF733WJN2

                                            symptoms :
white led light logo at startup,
after 2 minutes, blinking 3 times a row, repeating
no backlight (and apparently no picture, checked panel with flashlight)
                                            no startup sound

                                            powerboard investigations :

                                            1-2 PNL : 0v
