    RCA RLDEDV3988-A Flickering Backlight

The backlight LED's pulse on briefly every second. There is a previous thread about this problem with a confusing solution. This is an LED TV with a built in DVD player and combined power supply/main board. https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...t=rldedv3988-a

The backlight power wires appear to be fed by 3 thin red wires. I measured about 25V DC steady on each of them. They were not pulsing. The last post on the previous thread indicates the cause could be bad LED's in the strip.

There doesn't appear to be a DIM or ADJ signal since it is all one board. There also is no backlight control, just brightness in the user menu.

Googling the number on the sticker of the board T390HVN01.0, I can find a datasheet for the panel.

I disassembled the panel and found the top row of three 10-LED strings is out. Guess I need to research troubleshooting and fixing this.

those RCA's are utter garbage. Even on a Vestel set, one is able to adjust the back light in the menu. Also it's one of these one board has it all TV's.
Anyway... test each LED on that bad sting with your DMM in diode mode.

When I took the LCD panel off and disconnected the LVDS connector, the backlights remain on but dimmer. This would be an easier way to diagnose this problem.

I took a razor blade and scraped a bit of the soldermask off each side each LED to check each one and found one bad with the DMM. Luckily, I saved one strip of a LED of a broken screen TV that I can use for a repair.

Good news, I fixed it by replacing the LED. Very difficult to solder on because of the narrow space between leads. Bad news, I cracked the LCD panel. I knew it was delicate and tried to be very careful but it cracked anyway. If anyone needs parts.... 2 LED strips, DVD drive, main board.....

I've broken every panel I've had to disassemble. My mistake this time was I moved the panel with all the plastic panel pieces behind them. I thought this would protect it but ended up flexing it more instead. I also grabbed it by the sides which flexed it more- should have only grabbed it from the top. Once I had the front bezel off, the LCD could have been removed on it's own by prying off the circuit boards at the bottom that were double sided taped down. Initially I just flipped everything over to take a look at the backlights (panel was still fine) but decided to remove it to better access the strips. In hindsight, this was the correct approach to minimize handling and I should have just pried off the top LED strip.

I've never broken a panel yet *knocks on wood* but i find when i'm stripping a tv for led strips because of a panel fault (thanks Samsung, so many...) I shake it and wobble it laugh at the sound it makes but it never cracks on me. Go figure. Not to say it didn't damage the tab bonds, because they already were bad but never cracked one. they seem overly robust when i have no care for them.

When i care for the panel, i'm almost a nervous wreck when i remove it and place it in a safe spot.

I haven't broken a panel yet either. But I guess there is always the risk one has to live with.

Hello, I have a strange issue with a laptop that I'm working on fixing up for a friend of mine, and it appears as though the LCD backlight control is not reliable. The LCD backlight flickers sometimes with inconsistent brightness. The controls are no better.. when I go 1/3 of the way in the brightness controls it will get bright but flicker quite obviously, and when I go all the way to what SHOULD be full brightness, it becomes darker. The flickering is less severe at lower brightness, but more severe at higher. the backlight will literally flicker on and off when I set it to the lowest brightness...

                    Samsung LE52B620 - Flickering backlight
                    by sliceypete
                    Hello All,

My Samsung LE52B620 started to have backlight flickering about a year ago, it would only last for about 10 mins and then the backlight would stay on.

about a month ago the backlight flickering is constant and does not stop.

I think it's a problem with the power supply board (BN44-00267b) or maybe the backlight is dying?

I checked and all the caps look to be fine.

I do not believe it is a problem with the mainboard, since I unplugged it from the power supply and the backlight came out but still flickers.

this tv is throwing me for a loop. do samsung tvs no longer have the backlight self test feature built into the power supply?
i tested the backlight with my LED tester and it lights up both strips. one of them reads 100v and the other reads 63.7v.
unplugged mainboard from power supply but left backlight plugged in, and then plugged psu wall power in. expected to see backlights light up but see nothing.
according to how ive diagnosed in the past, this would almost always be a bad power supply. replacement power supply was cheap like 20$ from ebay. but still i get not even...

                    by EffiSon
Hi. Could anyone on the forum help me find the cause of the problem?
The board is LA-B111P Rev:1A comes from Lenovo Y50-70.

I have a identified the damaged R205 resistor, and connect a jump wire over it So it restores the backlight but causing strange problems

                    1. With Battery ONLY plugged in laptop works fine
2 .With Charger ONLY plugged in laptop works fine as well

                    3. Connecting both battery and charger at the same time shows a strange flickering screen. The flickering is not constant, it is completely random (and I think it depends on the load

This TV has been on the wall in our reception area for around 10 years and the other day the backlight failed. You could see a feint picture so we knew the screen was OK. I took the TV apart to get to the failed backlight and inject voltage in to each half of the LED strips to identify which ones had failed and 4 needed replacing. I ordered a set off of Amazon and they arrived the next day.

On fitting the new LED strips I plugged in the TV was blinded by the light!!

It was only when I partially put it all back together (including the screen) that...
