Broken Vizio E500i-B1, need of service manual

    Hi all,

I have the common power issue of the E500i-B1 where the TV powers off on its on, or switching inputs, or between commercials, and/or powering off with the remote, it won't power back up unless you unplug the tv for a while, then it will power on... wow, that's a long sentence..

Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone has a copy of the service manual, where I could educate myself on the components and voltages on the power board. I've changed the power board and main board, still no fix. Both boards came from ebay, so I may have gotten a bad board. Time for me to drag the multimeter out and start troubleshooting... also, any pointers would be greatly appreciated!!

Having to unplug a PSU to start it back up, sometimes is a fault with the 'Start-up Resistor/s' increasing in value or just going open.

Are your speaking of a common resistor or a diode type? I can test the resistance of the resistors on the board.. (or do they need to be removed?)

So when it does not power back up, what DCV do you have on the connector that goes from the power supply board to the main board?
Make sure to report the DCV readings with pin name and follow by the DCV reading. We need to know what are missing when it does not work.

Scenario: TV is unplugged for hours (overnight), I plug in TV, front white LED lights up, then fades out. I hit power on the remote, screen powers up with VIZIO logo. Watch TV for 30 mins, or so (if I stay on the same channel it stays on longer), then without any input from remote, power shuts off. I hit power on the remote , nothing happens. No front white LED light, or backlights. Repeat the unplugging- starts over.

I'll get the DCV information when I get back home. Thanks for your help.

Pics attached with the non-working voltages. I couldn't get the backlights to come on this morning. I left it unplugged all day while I'm at work I will post working voltages this evening.

I have the same model with exactly the same symptoms and exactly the same NONWORKING voltages. The turn on signal coming from the main board to the PS board is switching like it should when I turn on and turn off. Im thinking something is nonfunctional on the DC output side of the PS board, but im still unsure. Would like to know whether i need to order a main board of PS board. help us please?!?

I cannot tell what those Voltages are for since there are no pin names to go with pins as I requested in post 4.

I have attached the pinout and voltages from the board that SHOULD be present. The layout of the OP voltage chart is the same layout that I have shown.

Re: Broken Vizio E500i-B1, need of service manual

                    Update on repair:

We have had a breakthrough!! After extensive research on many service sites, I could not find anyone who had a PS board in stock. On shopjimmy.com, they had a "repair kit" consisting of components that commonly fail on the board. So, for 20 bucks, I decided to take a chance on it as my soldering needed some practice anyways.

I replaced all of the components I was sent and WHAM! the back light now powers on! PS voltage testing revealed everything is as it should be (as labeled on the board) EXCEPT, ALL 24 v supply lines only supply 15.06 - 15.5 v. This is an improvement from the approx. 1v it was before but still not where it should be.

Now, its worth saying that the "repair kit" was missing 2 components that were supposed to be there. Contact with the company revealed that they are out of stock of these components. They apologized and gave me a complete refund with no need to send that parts back (fantastic customer service over at shopjimmy.com might I add).

I have attached pictures displaying the components replaced. The components circled in red were replaced first, and then tested to reveal no changes. THEN, I replaced the parts circled in yellow and that is when I got the back light power on and the current state. The two components circled in blue are the ones that SHOULD have been replaced but weren't in the kit.

It would be my luck that the two missing transistors from the kit are what would fix this guy. If I only had a schematic, I would know by now!!!!! Anyway, I am waiting to hear back from the company to see if they will give me part numbers for the 2 missing components. I will update when I hear back from them.

Great job. I wish u were getting 24v tho. I'm getting 15.4 as well, and tv still acts the same. I changed ic9301 and it worked for a while, but finally went back to shutting off .

Every. last. one. THREE TIMES OVER. I even replaced the couple that came in the kit even although they tested fine.

The rep at shopjimmy.com was awesome enough to give me part numbers for the missing transistors from the kit. Digikey order should be in late friday/monday morning. I will replace those and let you guys know if that does anything.

@Drew did you ever get the 24 volt line back to normal?

Recently there have been a number of threads about voltages being lower than shown on the legend. Others with identical models have agreed that the legend is incorrectly marked for the set. It may be the case here.

I still have mine..still have issues on it. I don't have 24v as well.. curious on the results of the cap replacements..

Out of curiosity what DC value of capacitors are connected to the 24V line.

Mine is a vizio model m502i-b1.But the power supply is the same as shown in earlier pics.I would have to agree that the 24 volt line is mislabeled.I changed all the caps ( 35 v 330 muf)even though they tested OK,and still no 24 volt.Mine only puts out 19v,but the TV plays just fine.Wonder why would they mislead people like that?
