Hi,
I just got a LeFavor 858 heat gun today. I bought it for re-flowing a 1"x1" chip. I played around with it and find it difficult to get the right flow rate, nozzle size, and temperature for the job.
The main difficulty is not knowing when does the solder melt under the chip. Unlike removing the chip, I cannot keep pushing it until it moves. If it moves, I will never be able to put it back.
Is this the right tool for the job?
I do have an old toaster oven.

Re: Vizio E701i-A3 stuck at logo, need service manual
Actually two main boards. The previous guy gave up. He told me the problem might be in the EEPROM.
I have ordered a high power soldering iron and a heat gun. With that, I would be able to get the metal shielding off and access the chips in front. The back side of the board has components mounted on it. That is where I saw the bubbles....

Re: Vizio E701i-A3 stuck at logo, need service manual
Some comment please!
One of the main board has resin bubbles on the back of the PCB where the front side is the main processing chip. The chip and surrounding areas are covered under a metal shield that I am not able to remove due to lack of tools.
The TV seems to have 5 boards:
Main board
T-con board
Power board
IR board
Key board
The power board seems to be OK since the voltages on the connector are good.
The T-con board should be OK since there...

Vizio E701i-A3 stuck at logo, need service manual
The TV stuck at logo and cannot be turned off unless the cord is unplugged.
I was given two main boards and exactly the the same thing happens to both of them.
I have checked all voltages on the connector on the power board that goes into the main board and they all look OK.
There are no signs of damage on any of the 3 boards.
Would someone help me with a pointer to the manual? It's supposedly to be the same as E601i-A3.
Thanks!

Re: Samsung Plasma TV PN50B450B1D No Pic, No TV Sound
As cheap as possible. LOL.
I have a few already, one for for modern low power electronics with thin tip, one with large tip for older PCBs that are easily damaged by high heat. This one, the biggest, is a 30W cheapo from sometime ago. It seems to have a gap between the heater and the tip rod that gets bigger as oxidation increases with time. If there is a way to get better heat conduction, I bet this might be good enough....

Re: Samsung Plasma TV PN50B450B1D No Pic, No TV Sound
Thanks. I suppose I will have to pull these transistors and test them one by one.
Somehow, I find my soldering iron isn't powerful enough, especially for melting the solder pins on the heat sink. Do they use a higher temperature solder here?
What would be a good soldering iron for general electronics repair that doesn't damage the PCB?...

Samsung Plasma TV PN50B450B1D No Pic, No TV Sound
When I turned it on, it has the internal generated sound, but no audio signal from the TV programming.
The logic board in the center of the TV blinks at about 1 Hz.
I checked the voltages to each boards and they seem to be OK
Visually, there are no bulging capacitors, no burnt transistors, at least when viewed from the top side of the boards.
The X board buzzes.
There is no picture at all.
I play with electronics from time to time but I don't know anything about TV. Does the audio signal go through the X-Y...
