    Vizio E320-B0 troubleshooting

Hello everyone, first i just wanna thank anyone who takes the time to read and possibly help out.

My brother had a Vizio E320-B0 LED TV that the screen went out on and was going to throw it in the trash so i told him i'de take it and try to fix it.

Im fairly sure either the power supply board or the main board went bad, but this is my first time trying to repair a TV so its all very new to me. I'm mainly a PC person.

My biggest problem right now is i dont own a volt meter, so diagnosing which board is bad is kindof tricky, and i realize that it will be really hard for anyone to give me a definitive answer without one, but i'm hoping that it might be possible.

Here's whats happening. The TV turns on, the POWER LED shines and stays on, the TV stays on but the backlight isn't on. The backlight flickers for half a second once every 30 seconds or so and flashes the menu screen (i assume). Since the backlight and screen seems to be working but not getting steady power, im assuming its the power supply? I inspected the boards best i could but didnt see anything glaringly obvious. On the power supply board theres a small amount of corrosion it seems. I can't tell if any audio is working because i cant manage to get to the TV input without being able to see the screen. I've tried searching on google and on here but i cant find anyone who had this exact problem with the screen flickering every 30 seconds or so. I also tried vizio support chat but they told me to call for a technician to come look at it but that would probably cost more than the TV is worth.

Again, i understand its hard to diagnose without a volt meter but if anyone can give me some idea i would appreciate it. If not i may have to go out and buy one. Thanks again for any help! I really appreciate it!

Without a being able to take some voltage readings as you don't have a Tester/Meter for us to help you better....I would say from your symptoms you have a PSU or backlight issue.

okay, I borrowed a multimeter. this is my first time using one so bare with me if I'm wrong here but I'm reading 1.325 V on the power input to the power supply board and when the backlight flashes it jumps to between 1.400 and about 2.200 V. from the tutorial I looked at it said I should be getting about 120 V so I'm thinking it's the power supply board that's bad?

I have to return the multimeter today so if anyone can give me an idea of what other connections I can test or if those readings are faulty ide really appreciate it.

I've just finished replacing the power supply board and im still getting the same problem. Black screen and with the backlight flickering. It has gotten slightly better though. Instead of the screen flashing every 30 seconds or so, it now flashes every 5 seconds or so. Do you think it would be worth it for me to try replacing the main board?

If you need to troubleshoot you need a multimeter or it's not worth your while looking for help.
People can then advise you to take various voltage readings so that they can try and narrow down what is wrong for you.

I have one I can use, I just need to know what connections I should test

If you disconnect the mainboard and power up what DC voltages do you read on the connector, pins 1 - 8 as shown in picture 4.

Can you post a sharp picture of the power supply boards so the connectors and writing on the board can be read.
