Panasonic LCD tv goes into standby and won;t display a picture

This Tv is a Panasonic tx42a400. It will not display a picture or sound. The tv powers on but the green power LED quickly turns to a red flashing LED and the tv stays on standby. There are some signs of life on the screen initially soon after powering on. You can clearly see backlight activity , but this soon goes off and then the tv shuts down to standby. I have changed the power board as I thought that this was the cause of the problem. Also used different cables etc. I now suspect the main av board and wanted to know if anyone can suggest some voltage testing to check the av board before I buy a replacement av board.

If you could post some photo's of your boards and how they are interconnected would be a good starting point.

Alistair e. The tv just seems to blink repeatedly without a pause.

I get the basic principle. Use the metal back chasis of the lcd panel as ground and then use the red probe to test the voltage.

Thanks reecyburger. Very useful link. SO you think, maybe a faulty led strip or individual led. You may be right as I have now repaced both the main board and the psu board and the fault persists.

What's the part number printed on the power supply. It's too out of focus to see anything clearly.

Assuming that your power supply is OK, do the backlights come on and remain on if you power up with the mainboard disconnected.

Yes, it does have an led driver board. Have tried changing it as I have a spare, but made no difference.

No. The led goes red and it goes to standby, but the backlights definately don't come on. This was with the lvds cable disconnected from the main board.

To check the backlights then disconnect the mainboard from the power supply and connect PS_ON (Power On) to Standby Voltage using a 1K resistor, and also BL_On(backlight on) again to Standby Voltage using 1K resistor.

Have reconnected the lvds to the mainboard, but now have no backlight activity atall. At first, when this problem started the backlight came on for about 1 second shortly after powering on. Now there is nothing and the tv is on standby with the 1 repeating led flash.

Haven't done this from 16. I don't have the 1k resistor. Have just reconnected everything.

Thanks for the help but I am not sure I need to test further. The link from reecyburger shows exactly the same symptoms in another tv from the same series. Also, mine blinks once red followed by a pause. One blink means backlight issue according to Panasonic. I need to decide whether to strip down the panel or not. I am wary of doing that , as I may damage the lcd beyond repair by dismantling everything. It may be worth doing though.

My Samsung UE75TU7020k lights up fine when one of the ribbon cables are disconnected from the main board, lights stay on but not getting half a picture, I do the same with the other ribbon and put the other one in and lights stay on but not getting half a picture. The standby light flashes 2 times then reboots then it then tries to come back on again and just keeps looping until I take either one of the ribbon tables out (doesn’t matter which one I take out it stays lit when either one is out). I’ve tested the backlights but all working with none shorting out, I’ve replaced the main board...

                                          Hi All,
Wanting to learn some electronics repair skills.
I found a non working Panasonic TC-P60S30 and this is my first project / attempt.

So far I have found a blown cap on the main power supply board.
After replacing it there's still no standby power.

Poked around and found a resistor on the PSUB power supply board that measures open.

An online resistor calculator shows this is a 93k ohm resister.

                                          My questions:

                                          Is that correct, 93k ohms?
                                          Is it a fusible resistor?
Lastly, how do I know what wattage?...

                                          by FZG
                                          Hello!

I recently got an old VHS player from Panasonic and just for fun I want to try to repair this device. It is an AG-1000B portable VHS player from 1990 and it has a problem with picture quality in playback mode.

Picture in playback mode is very noisy and often loses sync but the still images are nearly perfect.

I want to know, is this something that could be solved by recapping or is the video head likely gone?

                                          Also, what mechanism is this?

                                          Any feedback is appreciated!...

                                          Hi all

While I have quite a decent background in electrical & electronic troubleshooting & repairs, this is my first time stripping down an LCD TV for repair.... I have inherited a 3yr old Panasonic LCD which has a picture, but it is quite dark (too dark to be watchable - but still quite easy to see; I didnt need a torch to see it).

I started by checking and trying to adjust all of the picture and backlighting levels, but that made little to no difference. I also did a factory reset.

From there I envisaged that the backlighting wasn't working, however...

T-con suspect issue. Both ribbon cables no picture. One ribbon cable ok. (58pus8545)

Hi guys! I realized you have a lot of knowledge here so i am hoping you could point me in right direction with my odd issue.

The Tv is a Philips 58PUS8545/12, it had no picture but working backlights.

                                          Original T-con:
Opened the Tv and tested to unplug one ribbon cable at a time. With this test i could see that i got fine picture on both halves as long as there was only one ribbon cable connected, with two connected picture were gone.

                                          First replacement T-con:

I thought it might be t-con and ordered new t-con from china(supposedly tested)...
