What does THIS failure look like to you guys ? (a Myria LCD TV)

Greetings fellow cappers, quick and simple one today: got this Myria....thing....junk-dive LCD which has some color problems and was wondering what you guys think the fault is: panel or T-CON board. The pictures don't do it justice too well, since cameras don't "see" screens the same way our eyes do, so I'll try my best to describe it: basically the colors are a bit messed up It's most visible in the picture with the home screen of an android box I use for testing: notice how the background has a highly uneven color when it should look like THIS. The whole thing seems to have a tint of purple to it and there's also "ghosting" going on (when an image changes suddenly, such as a menu going away, it leaves behind a grayish-purple afterimage that takes quite a while to disappear). Forgot to mention it affects all inputs. Don't know how else to describe it but it all boils down to two issues: bad T-con or bad panel. Now while I was taking those pictures, it had been running for like 5-10 minutes and at one point the colors suddenly improved slightly ! They weren't brilliant, but definitely better, especially on those SMPTE test patterns.
I got to the T-con which was buried underneath tons of metal and identified the gamma chip which I read is usually the cause of such "solarized' picture. I know you can't see it, but it's an AS15F chip. A fellow of mine tried blasting it with some flux and hot air but nothing changed, but that could very well be because he did a sloppy job - I feel like he didn't heat it long enough. I will try taking over with actual solder and a soldering iron, but before I do that, what does this look to you : is it worth the struggle, or is the chip busted (or perhaps the panel ?) :| I'll start measuring those test pads as suggested in another thread around here if need be, but for now just let me know if I'm on the right track. It's such a bullshit designed TV that I can't really access the T-CON with the TV fully assembled, since it's placed under a metal chassis that holds the power supply and logic boards, so it's not gonna be easy to run it and measure it at the same time Cheers.

Reflowing the AS15F chip doesn't tend to work. They are so cheap if it's a gamma issue I just replace the chip. It's quicker than measuring.

Yup - nailed it. Replaced the gamma IC and it now works perfectly. Cheers

if you would have measured the gamma voltages on the AS-15, it also would have been a dead give away.

Apparently the AS15F failed again (at least that's what the guy told me over the phone - let's hope he's crazy and he's seeing funny colours )...could it be because of heat or improper supply voltage ? The power supply of this TV makes a HORRIFIC squealing noise that seems to be coming from the PFC inductor. Probably unrelated, but it's a thought...

there's probably a clapped out capacitor on the psu-causing spikes to reach the AS15.,which is most likely the cause of the squealing noise...Look for the lower value ones,100uf and below, and replace those in the drive circuit.
Not familiar with your set,but that type of psu noise is quite common when the caps dry up!

I suppose I should inspect the caps on the 12V line, since I believe that's what the t-con operates at. I remember some of them getting VERY hot indeed.

I've noticed some of the metal shields that cover the T-con have thermal pads over the AS15 and some don't. I've missed the thermal pad off before and seen the AS15 die in a very short time.

This one didn't have a heatsink, nor did it show any signs of someone removing it before me, as it would've had SOME sort of visual clue - a mark, a smudge...something. I actually thought of adding one myself, but I scrapped the idea thinking it wouldn't be an issue, that's why I asked about the possibility of this second failure being caused by heat.

Oh yeah, the symptom is different this time: the picture is white and badly washed out....I'm sure it's caused by the same IC, but I'll try reflowing it first, since I believe that my workmate did a sloppy job and it fell apart when the IC got hot....just a theory though...

I think bad AS-15 again. If it isn't heatsinked, then put one on there.

I replaced the AS15F again, but it didn't fix the issue this time: the picture is still white and very "grainy"...what could be the issue ? Perhaps the main board or something else on the T-CON ? The T-CON is a V32B C3 by the way...I read something about a Q300 going bad, but I don't know what to replace it with...this sucks......:|
