    LED Backlight Love /Hate

    LED Backlight Love /Hate
Boy fixing Plasma TV' were such a pain with quite a few boards,
Then LCD with CCFLs now LCD with LED back light!
Well now you can pick up a nice TV with bad LEDs.
Yes a pain to fix but at a low price.

You would think that the manufactures would make it so you could replace the LEDs from the back, LOL ya right. big job low cost in parts, Real bummer.

I agree here with you totally.....Wish they could start making LED replaceable from the back so we wouldn't have to interfere with the very brittle glass screen.

Hate them, fucking unreliable pieces of rip off shit but then again they have earned me a fuck tonne of money. Also only real Techs repair can take on Plasmas and enjoy it as we like a good challenge haha

I think they should design the leds to slide out of the side as an entire board, or individual small boards. And get rid of the power spike that causes most of the led failures, since leds do not require a spike in the power to ignite them.and then they might be on to something. But like reece said, plasmas require a special love for electronics.

I agree with that, what they do is start at a higher voltage at a lower current then lower the voltage and up the current for the Pwm and feedback circuits to make sure the Leds are on and lit up, thats the only reason why this does not shorten the life of the Led though.

What kills them is heat caused by them simply being overdriven when on causing huge heat build up across the Led, over time this shorts or causes the Led whisker inside to fail open meaning the Led wont light.

Also yeah Plasmas require good patience and nerves as never know if they will blow at start up

            Lmao Reecey!

Just repairing the leds or ccfl is not that hard. Troubleshooting the faults on the ps or mainboard is the hardest part....

            Gotta love electronics though!
I only repair Panasonic plasma tv's! Currently owning a TX-P55VT50 and still searching for a ZT60!

this tv is throwing me for a loop. do samsung tvs no longer have the backlight self test feature built into the power supply?
i tested the backlight with my LED tester and it lights up both strips. one of them reads 100v and the other reads 63.7v.
unplugged mainboard from power supply but left backlight plugged in, and then plugged psu wall power in. expected to see backlights light up but see nothing.
according to how ive diagnosed in the past, this would almost always be a bad power supply. replacement power supply was cheap like 20$ from ebay. but still i get not even...

ASUS ROG Strix G713QR - Keyboard, backlight and side LEDs don't work
                  by hollox123
Hello, I have an "ASUS ROG Strix G713QR" laptop, and for approx. 3 months I have the following problems:

                  1. Laptop keyboard doesn't work
                  2. The backlight on the laptop keyboard doesn't work
                  3. The x2 side LEDs (red) on the laptop don't work

The power button works, the touchpad works, and all the USB, HDMI, Ethernet, etc. ports work.

I already tried to reinstall all the drivers and reinstall Windows. So I don't know what to try anymore that is software-related.

But I am strongly aiming that it is somehow a BIOS-related problem,...

Panasonic LED TV TC-40A420U - Replaced Backlight LEDs but now no image/display or garbled
                  by signal.quest
I have a Panasonic LED TV TC-40A420U. The TV was given to me as an attempt to fix or throw out. I replaced the Backlight LEDs and now the screen lights up, but there is no image/display. If I play with the up/down buttons I can get the display to change from black to garbled. I can't get sound from HDMI but not sure of what input is selected. I have no remote control. When I connect a laptop to the HDMI ports it recognizes a Panasonic TV for display and sound output but I can't see or hear anything through the TV. This makes me think the mainboard is OK, but not sure if mainboard can...

Guide me through repairing a Dell p2210f LCD ccfl backlight monitor
                  by DanPoka
I bought this p2210f dell monitor to fix. Schematic is the same as p2210.
Behaviour is that monitors comes on but then backlight switches off almost instantly. If I look with flashlight I can still find the "No signal message". So definitely a backlight issue. Trying to advance the issue I proved that the protection circuit is switching off the backlight by shorting out C3 and resistor to disable the INL chip then re enable by removing the short.
This is where it gets interesting. When I disassembled the monitor to solder leads on c3 capacitor I noticed the backlight flickered...

                  No Backlight Macbook A1990 820-01041
                  by Comp_Pro
                  Hello all,

Am trying to figure out this backlight issue with this A1990 Macbook Pro.

                  Tests performed:

There is no backlight even with a good screen.
Backlight IC is receiving the correct support voltages.
                  Fuse F8400 ok
                  Current sense resistor R8400 ok
Backlight IC is receiving 3.3V on enable pin.
Backlight IC receiving voltage from PPBUS_G3H, aprox 12.5V.
Backlight IC receiving 5V from PP5V_G3S
Backlight IC BKLT_SCL and BKLT_SDA both measure 0.545V diode mode to ground
                  I2C_BKLT_SCL and I2C_BKLT_SDA both measure...
