Sony KDL-42XBR6 14 blinks missing DC to T-Con

Thread title should say Sony KDL-46XBR6.

I've been troubleshooting a Sony with rainbow vertical lines and no picture. With HDMI input, my source would appear every tenth line or so.

First I found and replaced an open fuse on the T-Con near the LVDS cable.
Picture stayed the same. But I had 12VDC across that replaced fuse.

Next I ordered a compatible T-Con (BT-2) board and tried it. Somewhere along the way I lost 12VDC thru the LVDS to the TCon fuse. Backlight is on, picture is black; then the TV powers down with 14-blink panel code.

In the attached picture the backlight is jumpered on and 12VDC is present on the PS (G5). I cannot locate 12Vdc on the main board near the LVDS cable. The attached pic shows an arrow pointing to a fuse, but I don't see the fuse.

Re: Sony KDL-42XBR6 14 blinks missing DC to T-Con

    Update!
The missing 12VDC at the TCon LVDS input was a blown fuse on the main board. Replacement Main (AKA BU) board restored power to the TCon.

The current symptom is full picture with severe motion blur. Menu text has double images.

I ordered and tried a TCON 5546T03 C03. No picture at all, and the TV throws the 14-blink code. This TCon has an open F603 on the backside. I'm returning it today.

My question for the forum is; referring to the photo of the circuit including the open F603, what IC is this and what does it do? I cannot even make out the light print on the IC package. It must be 9853A like it's neighbor above it.

If you use a light source (torch) and adjust the angle you're shining it onto the IC will very often highlight the number on it.
Willing to help but I'm no expert.

Re: Sony KDL-42XBR6 14 blinks missing DC to T-Con

Getting back to this TV after an absence. I sent the T-Con off to PTS electronics for test and repair. They replaced the ic which I think is the gamma processor, and the 12V fuse for LVDS voltage. The attached photo shows the T-Con as returned.
However they judged it "beyond economical repair" and did not charge me. The right-half picture with motion blur is still present when that side panel tab is connected. With the left panel tab connected the entire screen fills with random colored vertical lines.

          Two questions:
Is there a likely cause for one side of the t-Con to short out the panel?
Given the rarity of this T-Con 1-857-253-1 55.46T02.C05 on the used market, what can I substitute for it? SJ shows it used in four model Sonys, but lists no substitute parts. Can I use a later model T-Con from one of the three other TV models?
          (the three others are KDL-46V5100, -46VL160, -46Z4100).

I'd like to get my hands on one of these tv models here in the Austin, TX area just to try whatever T-Con is in it.

Correction: The vertical lines must have been ribbon installation. Symptom is back to original motion blur after I reseated the two panel ribbon cables.

Re: Sony KDL-42XBR6 14 blinks missing DC to T-Con

Back again after some other projects. I lost 12VDC to the fifth TCon. Both main boards have open fuses on the LVDS 12V supply in different places. There is no short circuit indication on the 12V with an ohmmeter.
The original main board (BU) has an open mystery fuse F7001, next to connector CN1411 from the Power supply. Unlike all other fuses on this pcb, there is no legend of fuse capacity or voltage.
Can anyone with a schematic for this EX-1 chassis tell me what fuse is called for?

I don't see what fuse you are talking about but would say you have a panel problem. Does flexing the panel change anything?
I assume no responsibility for any stupid suggestions I might post.

I should have written F7005. It has a legend ND.

"Does flexing the panel change anything? " When I got this TV it had a bad motion blur. Pressure on the panel and the tab bonds had no effect.

I had the same green vertical screen as second thumbnail on opening post. When it occurred I switched from cable HDMI to over the air digital. Picture returned to normal. I am using a Logitech remote. Used the Logitech remote to switch back and cable HDMI picture was ok again. Several days later my KDL-42XBR6 went dead with 14 blinks code. Replaced with two used T-cons. Still Sony TV is dead. Fuse F603 is open on my original board and last t-con board. Did not check on first t-con board. Pulled LDVS cable and code disappeared with all three t-con boards. Pulled both ribbon cables on t-con side with LDVS connected to t-con. I still got error on all three boards. Sent first board back. Thinking about using Coppell TV Repair to refurbish my original t-con board. Sending second t-con back for refund. Coppell TV does you-tube showing repaired working, send back if they think not repairable. Worried something in my TV is causing Fuse 603 to blow and my returned refurbished board will again have a problem. Is there anyway to isolate if the panel or BU board is bad also and maybe causing replacement t-con to go bad? Thanks Larry

One more thing. G6 power board connector had 12 v with LDVS disconnected. Connected power went to zero.

You have may shorted components on the tab bonding boards, the boards that are connected to the LCD glass.

Do I just throw away the panel (TV) or try to troubleshoot more?

It is up to you, you need to do more in-depth troubleshooting to find out what the cause of the problem is.

Is this the left and right boards attached to other side of t-con ribbon at top of picture? Are these caps really small and label starts with a C?

The skinny long boards as shown in the picture.
C = cap, but now all manufacturer print the designator on the board.

Used to be in 71-72 Vietnam Country level Crypto gear board level repair, but today components are much smaller and we were only taught to repair our 5 pieces of gear.

Thanks for your help. Would it be okay to use multi-meter set at low level with 2 ribbons disconnected to check micro capacitors for a short?

Hi everyone, I hope you are having a good day.

                                          I have a laptop sony Vaio, DA0HK1MB6E0, MBX-247. REV: E

The laptop suddenly shut down as the owner told me, so I did the normal check there is no short but the laptop it's not powering up and there is no light when I connect the adapter because there is no battery.

                                          so I checked.

                                          by thelankanguy
The TV shows a black screen with no image.
TCON ribbon connectors were disconnected individually for image and there was no half image even.
Later both ribbons were disconnected and TCON voltages were tested.
12V, 3.3V, 1.8V were seen present but VONE signal reads 0V.
There is also a short to ground in this circled inductor.
Is this a TCON issue or something else ?...

                                          Hi,

I have this problem with my Sony 55' AG9.
                                          It flashes 4x.
I have found the service manual, and seems it is the TCON.

Before I buy a TCON can someone check the vid?

                                          Thanks in advance!...

                                          Hello everyone,

I've recently been given a Sony 8k Z8H. It's got a white screen with two vertical black bars. At times it's given me the 5 blink Tcon code. Testing voltage on the Tcon I can see some low or missing voltage. I've done a basic visual check of cables and the COF. Not seeing anything obvious. The original Tcon seemed to have good caps until turning it over. On the bottom I found maybe 10 caps with both sides of the caps shorting to ground. I thought ok these caps and likely other components on the Tcon are shorted so let's try a replacement Tcon. I just received the...

                                          Hi all,

I have the subject TV and it will work normally sometimes but suddenly go black and give the 2 red blinks blink code. When this happens, I check the power supply board voltages and all I have is the Standby 3.3V and BL_ERR 2.2V. When it's working normally, all power supply board voltages look normal and stable. I've checked the backlights with a tester and they all test good. I've also read that the 2 red blinks is a faulty power supply board, so could it be throwing up an erroneous BL_ERR?

Any Sony experts out there that can help??...
