    Philip 42PFL5609/98 - Intermittent

The TV is giving intermittent problem as follows:
    1) Stay in standby mode (red color indicator) and will not responds to the remote or power switch on the TV....Have to unplug and replug in supply multiple time and with luck will turn on.
    2) When turn on (white color indicator) it will operate and suddenly there will be a glitch and the display goes haywire and speaker clutters....following will not be responding to remote ...have to power down again.
3)At time, from standby mode, pressing the remote will switch on (white indicator) but no picture or sound......again will not response to the remote.

Test Done so on PS board - measurement
    a) PIC 1 : with standby light
    b) PIC 2 : switch from standby to white light but no display
    c) PIC 3 : when TV is working

I have remove and tested all the thru-hole capacitor and the reading are all OK.

Not sure if it is the Power Supply or Main board that is giving the problem... If it is the main board, how to or is it possible to rectify and repair.

Can we see the pictures of the whole boards?
Right now it looks like the main board is the problem.

Unplug the TV from the AC outlet then heat up the main board, especially on the that metal shield where the processor is with hair dryer for 3~4 minutes, then plug the TV into the outlet and see if it will start properly.

          Hi BUDM
Have already tried using hair dryer (hot air) blowing to heat up the ps. Board and main board....The problem still persist.
I thought I could simulate/isolate the faulty area... but did not workout.

Well, the problem is on the main board some where, I have no idea where, there are some 3-pin regulator ICs on the main board that I can see from the pictures that you can check.

                  Yes Diah,

Remember that I downloaded and updated the software via USB some year back...then the TV operate without any problem.

Anyway, I downloaded the version from Philip and reload it to the TV again although it was reported by the system that the version is the same.

I have also measured the voltages of the main board regulator when the TV is working and all the voltages seems normal...attached picture of reading.

Thanks for the schematic....but I don't know how to work around the problem if it is due to software.

                      Re: Philip 42PFL5609/98 - Intermittent

Nope...as mentioned only if I can get the tv to startup.

The problem is illusive....sometime no standby light at all, at time with standby light and when press remote, LED turn which but no display.

The thing is that even if I manage to get the TV to startup after multiple unplug and plug the supply.....there will happen when the screen suddenly go haywire and speaker starts cluttering with noise.

There are also times when the tv startup and suddenly restart again ....but system hang.

Even when the tv is not working properly, I did a measurement on the main board regulators output....the supply actually did turn on as I was getting 2.68V , 1.2V, 5V, 3.3V .

At least with all helps, it has been narrowed down to the main board problem and not the power supply board.

My TV mother board partnumber is 40-T8222P-MAD2XG 42PFL5609/98
I did a goggle search for the board and found selling
                      40-T8222P-MAD2XG 42PFL5609/93

Not sure /98 and /93 what is the different..... If I were to get the /93 is it compatible to my TV model

                        Edit
                        Just thinking about this:
Is it possible that 98 and 93 are being misread?

however this not official repair methods , and you are going to buy replace MB, why dont try to heat your kitchen Often to 250 degree ( No air reflow heat ) and place the MB for 5-10 minute then just open the often door and never move the MB till it cool down, and check.

                                Yap agree...Just googling around....
I have removed the aluminium shield to take a look at the processor area...no dry joint or bloated cap...I have also use the same heat blowing method.but problem still remain.
As the fault is intermittent...I really have no ideal what is wrong...
Frm the schematics, there is this standby mode processor...could this fail?..but then there are firmware burn into the processor...so no way to replace .

Nope..I got no resource for IR reflow.
I will try Diah method of burn-in today to see if any good.
                                    Will update status.
