Alba LCD26ADVD Picture freeze but sound continues

    Hi All,

Just been passed this Alba TV/DVD combi to see if I can fix it for a family member. It's a LCD26ADVD.

The set powers on and picture seems fine but every now and again the picture freezes. The sound continues though. On the 'frozen' image the contrast seems to get brighter and brighter seemingly from the middle (this could be the fact that the backlights are still on & the picture is fading though from the centre) I could see some visible vertical lines appearing as well (especially near the bottom half of the screen) I knocked the back of the TV and the picture unfroze.

Have not popped the back off yet to check for any bad caps on the power board (will do that check tonight) Was thinking maybe a faulty t-con board? Have ordered one off ebay (only £3.68)

The other thing I've noticed is the image is darker all around the edge. Don't know if this is connected or whether it's just had an image on screen for a long time (a game or something) that's had a border/frame round the edge and it's caused some screen burn. But just thought I'd mention it in case it might be related.

I'll take some pictures tonight and upload if you need any more info.

    TIA

maybe start by testing all the voltages when the set is working fine and then when its in the fault condition too see if any have altered voltage wise.you could also try heating and freezing various parts on the boards to see if you can narrow down the area thats causing this i guess a faulty lcd panel maybe causing this too theres a white sticker usually on the metal chassis of the tv can you see what lcd panel is used in this set.

A lot of older sets appear to suffer from the dark bands left and right of the screen which I don't think you can do very much about. However I live and learn.
Willing to help but I'm no expert.

I'll have a look to see if I can locate the sticker tonight and report back with details of what panel is used in it.

I think that's because of some 4:3 broadcasts isn't it? The left/right bands get burnt in. This is all around the picture though. Imagine a dark room and you place a lamp in the centre of the room. The edges of the room (furthest away from the lamp) are darker. That's how the TV looks. I suppose it could be a mixture of 4:3 and some 16:9 films with top & bottom border. Just didn't know if it was relevant or not to the freezing picture.

yes i have a baird set with the bands on the left and right hand sides it s a pity as would of been a good set otherwise, but its very noticable so cant sell it as it is so its either wait for a lcd too come available or just part it out.

Sounds to me like a tab bond issue, have you an image of the fault when it happens ?

Never had that, I have had used Lcds actually get slight image retention if not switched on in a while.

Re: Alba LCD26ADVD Picture freeze but sound continues

Sorry it's taken me a while to get back regarding this. I had a quick look when the T-con board arrived then went on holiday. Since then haven't had spare time to tinker with the set. With regards to the T-con board guess what... It's the wrong board! (either that or the set I'm trying to fix which is badged as an ALBA LCD26ADVD is another set in disguise!)

I took the back off, couldn't (at first) find the T-con board but then noticed it hidden on the top edge of the set (on the actual frames edge) Must be about an inch width and about 5 inches in length whereas the one I've got is about 2 inches wide and 4 inches long so am slightly confused to say the least!

I will have a look to see if any of the tabs are faulty. I have an LG set with this problem (have had to do the tab 'fix' three times on it using pads to press the faulty tabs onto the boards using the metal frame) I've not had it affect the whole screen though (normally one side that gets ghosting) which makes me think this is something else.

I'll try and have another look this weekend

It isn't the Tcon, it's a panel fault. What panel is in there? I recall a 26" Chi Mei panel where you can do a permanent fix if you're up to soldering hair thin wires between some of the gold test points of the tabs..

I know i've done one. But did not want to hear about another ever again.

I did that say before but never listened and wasted money, common on the V260B1 panels used in this set

                        by TR103
                        Hi, I have a Samsung UE50TU with:
                        - sound and backlight, but no picture
                        - when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds
                        - it keeps rebooting
                        - without ribbon cable between the two panel boards, it does not reboot but I have no picture
                        - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)
                        - when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.

                        - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel and with a jumpered...

Samsung UN60EH6000F Black Screen, Backlight and Sound Good. Power Cycle Returns Picture
                        by Mgiffune
I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and

Samsung UE60KU6079 backlight okay mainboard responsive, no picture, no sound
                        by Ierwin
                        Hello everyone,
Ive got a UE60KU6079 on the workbench that is giving me some headaches trying to troubleshoot.
The previous owner stated that there had been white dots on the screen which from the description sounded like some lenses fell of the backlight LEDs.
He had opened the TV from the back, trying to get to the backlight, supposedly gave up, reassebled everything and gave the TV to me.
I expected the worst like ripped COF cables or a cracked panel but could not find anything like that yet.
Anyway I still fully expect that there has been something seriously damaged...

Samsung UN70NU6900F no picture and no sound
                        by jchang
                        Hi all

I was just given a Samsung TV with the issue. I read various threads and videos and attempted the ribbon tape method to gain an image, but no luck.

                        Symptom:
                        No picture no sound.
When I plug in the power cord, Backlight LED turns on for a half second and then turns off. The red LED next to the power button located center bottom flashes 2 or 3 times. When the power button is pressed after, it does the same thing.
                        No sound at all.

                        What I tried:
                        1. I tried unplugging the left or right ribbon...

i had to blow some dust off the board and heatsinks with the datavac as i didnt clean it up before putting it in storage. after finishing...
