VO42L Turns OFF After a Few Minutes...

About 2 years ago, I did the master/inverter repair when BD9897FS-E2 burned through. I also went ahead and did the LG Philips modification to "fix" the problem. TV has been working well since, but recently will turn itself off after about 5 minutes of being on. The power button or remote will not turn it back on, BUT, if I plug and unplug the tv from the wall, it will re-start. I should be able to crack it open tonight and assess the boards for bad caps, but hope that the plug/unplug fix is enough for someone to nail it sight unseen.

    Hmm....

This is a VERY old set! It could well be the CCFL tubes themselves. Ive had both a LG and a Samsung fail in this way--because the CCFL's were stuffed....

VIZIO standby light is off when the unit cuts out. Ebay vendor of power supply kits thinks it is the motherboard. I have yet to take a look or begin troubleshooting.

You need to take DCV reading at the pins of the connector of the power supply board that goes to the main board, and also the connector of the power supply board that goes to the inverter boards, take the reading when TV is off, on, and after it turns off by itself.
Make sure to put the pin numbers, pin names, then the Voltage readings so we do not have to guess what the pins are for.

Will do. After plugging and unplugging the unit and not turning it on, the standby light glows yellow. Once on, it turns white and then cuts off completely when the TV shuts itself off. It appears the time that the TV is on is getting shorter and shorter...

            Power Board is FSP-254-3M01
            Motherboard is 0171-2272-2604

            Power readings to MB:

TV on Standby: VIZIO Logo is Orange
+5V is on, all other voltages are zero.

TV is ON: VIZIO Logo is White
            B1: 5.08V
            A1: 3.35V
            5V SB: 5.22V
            12V: 12.29V
            PSON: 2.7V

            Voltages After Cut Off:
All voltages zero and VIZIO light is off.

24.2V to inverter boards when on, zero when off.

With a DVD player connected to HDMI, seems to die within a few minutes. Without one connected, lasts alot longer, sometimes does not cut off at all.

395V at the large filter cap.

All caps on PS and MB pass the eye test, all flat tops.

The toroid near the 3 blue film caps is buzzing (or something else nearby).

Is the one capacitor behind the connector (PS_On) under the heatsink domed or is it just the photo?
Willing to help but I'm no expert.

                Unfortunately, it is flat.

So I have a mainboard on order and am also going to go ahead and do some preventative work on the ps board. There are vendors on Ebay with "kits" for the FSP-254-3M01. Does anyone know what components are in these kits? I would rather source directly from mouser than get generics, but I will if I have to.
