Re: VO42L Turns OFF After a Few Minutes...
So I have a mainboard on order and am also going to go ahead and do some preventative work on the ps board. There are vendors on Ebay with "kits" for the FSP-254-3M01. Does anyone know what components are in these kits? I would rather source directly from mouser than get generics, but I will if I have to.

Re: VO42L Turns OFF After a Few Minutes...
Will do. After plugging and unplugging the unit and not turning it on, the standby light glows yellow. Once on, it turns white and then cuts off completely when the TV shuts itself off. It appears the time that the TV is on is getting shorter and shorter...

VIZIO standby light is off when the unit cuts out. Ebay vendor of power supply kits thinks it is the motherboard. I have yet to take a look or begin troubleshooting.

VO42L Turns OFF After a Few Minutes...
About 2 years ago, I did the master/inverter repair when BD9897FS-E2 burned through. I also went ahead and did the LG Philips modification to "fix" the problem. TV has been working well since, but recently will turn itself off after about 5 minutes of being on. The power button or remote will not turn it back on, BUT, if I plug and unplug the tv from the wall, it will re-start. I should be able to crack it open tonight and assess the boards for bad caps, but hope that the plug/unplug fix is enough for someone to nail it sight unseen.

Re: Toshiba 37" inverter board failure
Just opened up my VO42L and BD9897FS-E2 has burnt up exactly as shown in Post 1. Caps look and check out ok with my esr meter. So does the fuse. I will order a replacement kit from ebay.Last edited by smata67; 01-02-2014, 05:04 PM.

Re: VIZIO VO42L No picture, No Sound
I just got one of these and will be inspecting for the inverter problems. One question, how do I test the diodes, can they be tested in-circuit? My plan is to replace the BD9897FS chip and test the mosfets and replace all of them on the same board if one or more of them is bad. The caps I will also definitely replace with low leakage types.

MS-7255 v1.0 Bad Cap
I found a bulging cap near the power connector on this board. It is above the cap I'm measuring in the picture, you can see the empty spot for it on the board. It is a 470uF/16v made by G-Luxon. It is an LZ (low impedance/high frequency) cap. I removed it and took an esr reading. As you can see in the pic, 2.2 which is about 10 times the .2 or so value you would expect in a typical electrolytic, would be lower in one of this spec. I was not experiencing any problems, but decided to fix it anyway. Desoldering this particular cap was tough because it is on the ground plane which sucks the heat....

Re: MSI 6337 815ET ver. 5 Doesn't Power Up
Caps in parallel would add up and since there are 6 or so, .02x6=.12 would be an expected reading, but I am going to pull out, test out of cirucit, and see if they charge up. I did get continuity at the power switch jack on the board, but forgot to see if pin 15 and 14 indicate a short or not.

Re: MSI 6337 815ET ver. 5 Doesn't Power Up
I took the board out and read the ESR for all caps with my Dick Smith meter. The Chiyyus or whatever the smaller 1,000uf are, all appear to be okay, read .02-.05. BUT, the 7 larger TEAPO caps in the VRM area all measured "0", which I think means they are all shorted, I am going to remove some and verify. The other few TEAPOs on the board read okay at .02 or so. No burned through transistor as others have reported and I found the 7xxxx chip near the PCI slot, but I don't see how in the world I'll be able to resolder these with...

This would be an easy check. Did you just pull out the wire from the PSU going to Socket 14 and ground?...

MSI 6337 815ET ver. 5 Doesn't Power Up
This motherboard would reboot every so often, then eventually completely failed. Failed as in the system will no longer even power up (PSU does not turn on). I disassembled the PSU and found some leaking Jamicons (3300uf/10V w/ ESR at .5, spec is .01) in there as well as a pair of blown load resistors. I obtained a new PSU, hooked it up and it too will not turn on. So now it is possible that the board is bad due to damage from the PSU OR that the board was bad anyway with the cap problem. If the PSU has somehow damaged the board, what components should I be looking at? I plan on taking ESR readings...
