Re: Sony KDL-32NL140: Powers On w/ Backlights, Black Screen - Bad TCON?
That's what I was leaning towards (panel fault). I can't get anything to show on it whatsoever. But if the main board is baked, how do I know for sure?Comment

Re: Sony KDL-32NL140: Powers On w/ Backlights, Black Screen - Bad TCON?
For the heck of it, I measured the connection from the power supply to the main board. All check out except for the 2 wires marked 13v; they measure 16v.Comment

So the two wires marked "unreg 13v" on the power board run into the main board. From there, they are measured at 16.25VDC. This doesn't seem right to me. The two offending pins on the main board measure around 15VDC with everything unplugged on the board except the main power.
I don't know a lot about electricity or components but aren't these 2-3 extra volts bad?Comment

by Daren87Hello everyone,
I've recently been given a Sony 8k Z8H. It's got a white screen with two vertical black bars. At times it's given me the 5 blink Tcon code. Testing voltage on the Tcon I can see some low or missing voltage. I've done a basic visual check of cables and the COF. Not seeing anything obvious. The original Tcon seemed to have good caps until turning it over. On the bottom I found maybe 10 caps with both sides of the caps shorting to ground. I thought ok these caps and likely other components on the Tcon are shorted so let's try a replacement Tcon. I just received the... -
by thelankanguyThe TV shows a black screen with no image.
TCON ribbon connectors were disconnected individually for image and there was no half image even.
Later both ribbons were disconnected and TCON voltages were tested.
12V, 3.3V, 1.8V were seen present but VONE signal reads 0V.
There is also a short to ground in this circled inductor.
Is this a TCON issue or something else ?... -
by bbrainHi,
I have this problem with my Sony 55' AG9.
It flashes 4x.
I have found the service manual, and seems it is the TCON.
Before I buy a TCON can someone check the vid?
Thanks in advance!... -
by x_orange90_xI just removed the back cover to test the backlights because when I first plug it in it will flash once and then start dark but I can see the image. I got 131v on string 1 and 167v on string 2. Usually when I get a bad set the meter reads 300v and they won't light up. When testing, each set lights up inside the tv. When I plug in the power and check the leads with my multimeter both strings are only about 3v.
Does this difference in voltage between the strings indicate that the lesser has bad LEDs? Or is it normal that they are not the same voltage? I've read some about this tv and... -
by rimwallHi, hoping for some views on this one which I've not come across before. The TV generates an image that has 12 noticeable bands across it. The image is still there and accurate, but the colour (or perhaps the brightness) changes gradually across each band which creates a noticeable 'step change' at the edge of each band. Given it's a 4K TV with 2160 rows of pixels, I'm guessing the 12 bands correspond to 12 gate drivers of 180 rows each. If this guess is right, then perhaps:
a) all the gate drivers are malfunctioning the same way (which seems unlikely), or
b) the Tcon board is malfunctioning,... - Loading...
