    Panasonic TC-P42ST30 14 blinks.

I picked this TV up for $40, hopefully not too much.
It has 14 blinks, which according to the service manual is IR LED SOS A-Board.
Should I just put a working a board in it? Is there anyway to repair these at the component level?

There may be some help here at the AVSForum

Willing to help but I'm no expert.

Thanks, so even though the service manual says a-board it could be the sn board?
The sn board isn't shorted. I just checked it.

They talk about the A board and P board

Yes but also sn board. I have a bid on a working a board on eBay. I'm the only bidder at 99 cents.

WEll...the manual says a 14 blink code is a loss of the 15 volt supply. I would check and see if you are getting it from the P board (power supply). It is POSSIBLE I reckon a shorted SN board loading the 15 volt line can cause this. if so...unloading the SN board and checking the source at the P board at turn on should confirm this,. P_6 on the P board--pin 10 and 11 should be 15 volts..leads to the A board.

Where do you see that? The service manual I have says why I put in the first post.
Btw the sn board isn't shorted. I already checked.

Dont put too much faith in the S.M. and what it reckons to whats wrong!

The blink-codes are vague to say the least! 14 Blink can indicate SC/SN board, P board or A.
ONLY way to confirm--Test in a methodical manner!

IS the 15V PRESENT...?? If Not, Why not!

DONT just chuck boards at it--Recipe for disasters.

                  Re: Panasonic TC-P42ST30 14 blinks.

I just looked at the diagram (block diagram) of the power supply lines--and the F15V line needs to be checked...if it is NOT there from the P board...you NEED to know that...before you replace anything..

The "blink code list" is NOT always perfect. Sometimes...you need to narrow things down on your OWN...with a meter ..voltage/resistance tests..

                    I get 3v on sos4-ps
                    5v on stbv5v
                    3v on f-stby-on
0v on the two F15v pins
                    0v on 15vs

OK--But that still doesnt mean P board fault....

What tests and stage isolation have you done?

                        I edited my post Alaistair.
I unplugged the sn board and checked for shortage at SN2 as some suggested at the avs forum.

Check if you have a shorted Vsus output on either Y or Xsus.

Ysus and xsus don't seem shorted.

Thats good then, so does the 15v come up at all even briefly ?

F15 will hit 10v as soon as I plug it in but then drop off
15Vc will hit 9v if I hold the power button in
15Vs will hit 9v if I hold the power button in. Then the both drop off.

If I remove the connector from P6 I don't get anything on F15.

With my meter in diode mode, when I touch the 2 outside legs of this black bottom component, it beeps.

That's because that item is a diode and the outer legs will show as a short, and will either both be cathodes or anodes. The image is too blurry to tell but the marking on the front tells you.

You should be able to try disconnecting sn2,ss11,p35 and the 3 white ribbons on this Tv and turn on to see if it still 14 blinks.
