Buying main boards for differnt TVs and swapping EPROM?

How likely is it to work if I buy a main board that is physically identical to my broken one but from a TV of a different size, and I swap over the original EPROMS onto the new board?

It's more of a general question, but I am thinking of doing it with a 50" LG LCD TV using a 32" main board.

physically identical not enough, the most important pin out, and the dump of eeproms to reprogrammed before built in.

Looking the same is not enough. they need to be electrically the same too. Say you find the same board exactly. say both are Vestel OEM, but ROM and brand from a different MFG, The ROMs would need to be programmed before install or bad things will happen.
Things I've fixed: anything from semis to crappy Chinese $2 radios, and now an IoT Dildo....

Sometimes you need to break shit to fix it.... Thats why my lawnmower doesn't have a deadman switch or engine brake anymore

The ROM chips couldn't just be swapped over? I would think it would work unless they are married to the board in some way.

you are talking on eeprom, not ROM, ROM yes, but the eeprom shuld be reprogrammed before built in

I guess you never replaced a failed EEPROM on a board before... You can "live flash", its not recommended though. And yeah, I agree, you should remove the Eeprom and program before swapping boards.

I would assume that would work.... Though different revisions of the board may be have diferences making them incompatable. I have yet to see that on a TV though, so YMMV.

90% on TV i faced trouble with EEPROM solved by reflow and write over program. Live write.

back to this topic i would love to see some one succeed so i can change my mind. or go back to studying more.

On modern sets the software files are so large data is stored on nand flash before been transfered to the main micro and usually spi eeprom so in theory it would be possible to transfer the chips from one board to another but usually the main micro is in a bag package so it would have to be re balled first so you could easily spend more time doing all this than the set is worth of you could buy the right board for .

Would you really truly need to swap the eeprom? If the TV's are similar other than size, I hope it would still work. As long as the screen ran fine, I would not care what size the mainboard "thinks" the TV is.

I am wanting to try this with some LG LED V's, they always kill mainboards, now I have a good one from a TV with a broken screen, so I am willing to try this in another LG TV, all the mainboards look identical.

lets take more deep in this sector, most firmware based Linux, except android or apple, for example i did it many time on TOSHIBA TV, with command WOAP.bin all firmware will be formatted, but the first sector keep its boot. and cannot erase it to write other bit for boot. in short talk each eeprom had its boot sector which communicated with DDR and other stuff.

Cant he just replace the boards and change settings in the service menu of the TV? Change panel type for example...
I only repair Panasonic plasma tv's! Currently owning a TX-P55VT50 and still searching for a ZT60!

ab 2012 most LCD LED back light, had more critic points, change main broad and PSU as both need handle vcom digital as well dim 1 and dim2 , beside all this it consider the Panel ID/ Type such as A,C,K some brands very hard to exchange Panel too, cause new panel will not power on after replace unless its brand written in eeprom. this is all related to ECO. not to buy new one.
