    Sanyo DP26649- T-CON Issue?

I would love some help confirming a diagnosis!

I have a Sanyo DP26649 that I was given. I'd love to get it running so I can replace a faulty CRT in an arcade game. When I first plugged it in, I powered it on and the green power light lit up and the backlight came on, but there was no picture. It seemed like there was no response at all from button presses other than to power it back off. While messing with it I began o notice a small green line near the top right where the channel indicator would normally be on the screen. I flipped channels until I could see a thin, maybe 1/4 inch line across the whole top of snow. I decided to leave it on and after about 10 minutes the TV had warmed up and the snow filled the screen. I was able to switch to a source and see a picture. The top 1/4 of the screen still flickered and changed colors (lots of weird vertical line patterns that are hard to capture a picture of). Another 10 minutes of warmup and it looks great! I am actually using it to type this post.

To me it sounds like a cold solder joint in the t-con board. I am just curious if anyone else concurs with my T-CON diagnosis before I drop $20 on a new one.

As I mentioned, it is difficult to get a picture of the flicker, but here is a picture of one of the flickers at the top of the screen before it had completely warmed up.

    Any advice is welcome!

Shop Jimmy posts that horizontal lines are not the tcon:

"IMPORTANT: Horizontal lines on the screen are virtually NEVER caused by a bad T-con board. Horizontal lines indicate a defective LCD panel (screen)."

Could be a mainboard or panel problem.

I realize that, and that could be spot on. But as it warms up and the skinny image along the top grows, it grows vertically. Also, as I am able to see the skinny image up top, there are colors from the skinny image that run vertically up and down the whole screen, even where the image has not reached yet.

If not the T-CON, any suggestions on how to find out/fix the issue?

Could be the panel with an intermittent connection on the ribbon cables. Try re-seating all the ribbon cables. Worst case, it's the panel. Take the back off and take some pictures and post please.

There is only one place where a ribbon cable goes into the panel, and that's at the t-con in the 1st pic. The second pic is of the power and main boards, which have to be removed to remove the back case and access the panel.

PS I know the lighting sucks, but it's the best I could do this late.

I hope other members weigh in on this but in my opinion, this is a panel problem.

I would rather have a CRT in that arcade than an LCD. What about re-using a CRT TV for the arcade? CRT is much more reliable compared to LCD.

*However, DON'T throw away that Sanyo LCD. Save it for others that may need the parts. Sanyo make a good TV, and you may get lucky and find another matching TV, or another LCD Panel for the one you have.

Crt are the best reliability wise you wont ever get a failed or missing scan line out like Lcd and Plasma.

Ideally I would use a crt in the arcade game, but since new CRTs are expensive and I had this lying around, I figured why not. Plus it's not like it's a classic game anyways, just a cab I was thinking about turning into a mame cab.

I was afraid of that. I guess It's time to post the other parts on ebay...
