Sony Kdl-46v5100

I just got a free 46" Sony. It has vertical lines on the left side mainly.
Research of others with similar problems lead to a faulty t-con board.
I wanted some opinions before I order one.

hmm... could be but the horizontal ones perhaps indicate a panel issue instead. Have you looked at the insides yet? check the tab cables. Vertical lines could be a poor seating of the tcon cables... maybe but the horizontal is more likely a tab issue.

The cables were seated ok.
I have found t-con boards on eBay. Shopjimmy is out of stock but I like to use them for reference.
I have the model number of the t-con board, as per shopjimmy there are different versions according to the numbers on the sticker.
eBay doesn't have one with my exact numbers but there are other ones listed for this model TV that are also on shopjimmy.
Would one of those work or must the sticker number be exact?

Before you go out and buy a new board, unplug one side of ribbon cable from the tcon to the lcd screen and turn the TV on. Then vise versa. See if the bad side of the screen goes white.

The bad side unplugged was black, the side plugged in is white with thin colored lines.
The picture should be rotated 90 degrees clockwise. I don't know why it posted like that.

If Shopjimmy lists the other tcon number as compatible, then you should be good.

They are listed for the same model TV but they say that if possible you should order the one with the same number.
eBay didn't have the same exact one so I ordered one of the other ones. At $37 (including shipping) with 10% restocking feel, I'll take a chance.

Replacing the t-con board solved it. $37 for the board. Half life 2 the orange box for PS3 fir the TV.

Great deal for what seems like a nice picture. Might keep it instead of a 50" Panasonic plasma that is not full HD.

If a mod could mark this thread solved it would be great.

My main TV is a 60" plasma, this is in the second room.
Keep the th-50px75u that is 720p over the 46" Sony that is 1080p?

Yeah the plasma has many advantages, a good Plasma will still look better than 4k lcds !
