Verticle Distorted Lines/bar far right of screen on Samsung UN55F6400AFXZC

    Hello All,

I am hoping I can get some positive insight on the issue I am facing with my Samsung TV model UN55F6400AFXZC.

The TV is only 2 years old and I would hate to have to throw it out as I love its features and image quality

Last week while watching Netflix, a few distorted lines started to appear on the far right of the screen. I guess I should of turned it off right away but I didn't and after a few minutes it became more of a bar. The "bar" is not a solid color but changes/distorts colors depending on the background. Happens on any input, menu etc.

So far I done 3 days worth of research and have tried reseating all of the wires + ribbon cables but it did not change anything.

Hopefully it is ok to share a video I took from my phone, seeing it is a large MP4 file I have uploaded it to my google drive but it is visible to anyone. I figure just a picture will not really show 100% what my problem is.

Note* At one point I got fed up and let it go unplugged for 2 days... I decided to show a friend the problem so I plugged the power back in to the TV and when I turned it on, the bar/lines were gone. I watched TV for about 40 minutes and the lines/bar came back.

Any advice is greatly appreciated! Hope its not the panel!! *CROSSFINGERS*

Try pressing on the tab bond for that area see if it helps. If so you will need to preform a tab bond repair.

I think its a panel problem and as reecey said try pressing on the tab bonding. Its the , correct me if I'm wrong , the UV glue thats getting loose from the panel which causes these lines. Its because of heat that this happens. ( expanding ).

Im afraid that you will have to disassemble the TV and search for the tab bondings in that area.

          Good luck!

This is what you must look for! Be careful , you don't need to remove the lcd panel! Just lay the tv down and apply pressure on the tabs , you will notice that it will disappear.

I fixed a few tv's with applying some material between the bezel and the tabs.

Also check this video from Norcal!

Thanks a lot for your help Moreno83, the videos were very educational. Unfortunately it seems like my tests failed.

I removed the frame to see the bonding tabs which are located at the bottom on this model. I tried pressing the tab, different ways, different pressure but it did not seem to directly affect any changes. At some point, I tapped sort of generally on the whole thing and the lines went away for about 5 seconds but then came back.......

I figured maybe it was the bonding tab but on the other side where I couldn't see/access it. So I managed to get just enough of the LCD out of the frame to check and honestly the bondings on both side seem perfectly healthy and pressing on it on both sides didn't seem to affect it either

Now I am wondering, can this possibly be a t-con issue or does this mean my panel itself is done for?

Would it be worth paying 50 dollars to have a technician come to my place to check? I have a feeling i'll be paying for nothing...

            Thanks again!

Keep trying on that tab, find out what position/what you do when it corrects it. This is 100% a screen fault, lines/columns out on a screen are never caused by Tcon.

Does not have to be the tab under the fault , can be a different tab. There are like 8/10 tabs?

Thanks Reecey, ill try again maybe on the weekend. Took about 2 hours in all for my testing and I had put it back together before sharing my results... Don't feel like jumping back into it right now haha.

Moreno, are you serious! It can be the tab on the left side of the screen even if the fault is on the right? Damn... I did check real quick, pushed on all of em but I might not have paid enough attention.

As for the amount of tabs... Mine only seems to have 4, is that possible? They are all located on the bottom which is the annoying part cause I have to take off the stand to access them. There are 2 on the left, 2 on the right. I took the frame apart even further to see if there were any on the top/sides but all I found were what seemed like bonding tabs on the sides (1 on each side) but they weren't like attached to anything really... Kind of just floating there glued to the tape.

I'll take a look again soon, maybe i'll have another spark of motivation to take it apart again haha.

Thanks again guys, you are all so kind and resourceful its awesome!

The tabs are located on the side where the T-Con is seated! T-con is connected to these 2 tabs which are connected to the lcd screen.

You have 4 , which is possible! Just take your time , it can be just 1 small line that comes loose and you get these symptoms.

                    Can you take some pictures?

It can only be the tab under the fault LOL as it drives that part of the screen, there is 10 and each one drives 1/10 of the screen.

Also if one of the ribbons going from the Tcon to the tab bond board if one single copper wire was lose the whole side of the screen wouldn't work not just one column.

                            Hello,

I wanted to give you guys an update...

Good news is, my tv is now fixed. Sadly, I was unable to do it myself as no matter what I did to the tab bondings, it wouldn't change anything.

                            Here is my fix:

Sent an email to Samsung stating that it doesn't make any %*(#@ sense that a 1500 dollar TV only lasted 2 years. They responded stating that they could not do anything since I am no longer covered by the warranty.

Spent a week trying to fix the issue myself, signed up on badcaps to gain further knowledge etc....

A week later I tell myself no, this is really not acceptable. This time I call Samsung. I am really not an angry person and seriously it is really out of my character... Although simply trying to explain my situation, it all came out naturally... The woman on the other side of the line was extremely nice I must say, she said that she would feel the same way and she doesn't blame me for my frustration.

She tells me to stay on the line, gives me a ticket number and transfers me to an executive.

............. I had to repeat the whole freaking thing all over again.

She tells me she there is no way that Samsung will replace my TV but says that they might be able to cover a portion of the repair costs. All she needed was for me to send her an email with a picture of my invoice and the estimate from the technician. I only sent the invoice as I no longer had the estimate.

An hour later, I get an email from Samsung stating a service ticket was opened but it didn't contain any information so I was a little confused. 20 minutes after that, I get an email from another executive stating "Samsung has decided to offer a ONE TIME ONLY service repair covering all repair costs".

I am extremely happy and now I do not completely hate Samsung. Only question now is, how long will this new Panel last me... 2 years?

Thought I'd share my experience, sorry for the extremely long novel....
