    MOSFET Equivalent

I found 2 shorted mosfets on a power supply from a SONY LCD tv. The writing on the MOSFETS was K4096, or 2SK4096-

Digikey told me this part would work

I just want to know if everyone agrees with the replacement part.

there's probably a lot of FETs that'll handle it but I'd try and find one that's at least equal in current or even upgrade to a higher rating. It's an 8amp 500V N FET.

Is Digikey the best supplier in canada

      Re: MOSFET Equivalent

yes digikey is the best supplier. The part digikey said would work is 7.1A. Would this be ok?

        Re: MOSFET Equivalent

Would most likely be fine, sanyo sheet quotes 7.1A @ SANYO’s ideal heat dissipation condition.

What do you have laying around in the FET department you could scavange?

Common numbering for these could be 8N50, etc may help find something. generally

Actually I have a MOSFET that says T8N50 on it. Would this work? See digikey link below.

            Re: MOSFET Equivalent

what's limiting this is most likely the package being full plastic. you could always use standard TO220 with an insulator

RJK series Renesas, 50xx or 60xx.

That would do it. Just confirm the pinouts match and you'll need to have an insulator behind the metal tab and an insulator for the bolt

                  .

When you click on the original link for the Sanyo transistor it shows most people interested in that also interested in AOT8N50

                    Re: MOSFET Equivalent

thanks tw2005. Definitely a good idea to insulate otherwise there would be a good spark show lol.
