=-=-=- Please help me with this Ol' Television Guru Demi-Gods of all creatures great and small??? =-=-=-=
Hello folks, first time poster here. Been lurking for awhile and it became apparent after reading here that some of the difficulty in trying to help each other is that not enough info is supplied initially. So if what I put here seems a little redundant, please forgive me. Having said that, I want to point out that I am in bad need of getting this repaired. My mother has cancer, mother's day is coming up...and as you might imagine a person in that condition is obviously going to spend quite a bit of time on the couch resting and trying to recover. Especially from the Chemo treatments!! So any and all help is much appreciated. I'd at least like to be able to supply her with a really nice tv while she goes through all of that. Hopefully on or before Mother's day. Having said that, here we go.....
The tv is a Vizio GV42L Flat panel. Pretty much identical to all the others you see in Wal-mart these days.
The main fuse right where the power cord connects to the circuit board was blown. So I replaced that.
I have looked 22 thousand times and cannot see a Capacitor that could even remotely be considered bad/blown on any board anywhere inside.
On the power board there is an additional 2 small fuses in the upper right corner. I don't know what to call them exactly. Surface mount fuses? Anyways, they both check good with Ohm meter so I know they aren't blown.
I tried the hardware tv factory reset idea already where you hold in the power button for 5 seconds or something. That didn't get me anywhere.
Ok, so here is what I got.
At this point the Vizio logo at the bottom of the tv glows orange when it's plugged in. When I hit the power button I here the normal click of what sounds like a relay and then that same logo turns white and stays steady. At no time does the logo blink or anything like that whether the power
button has been pushed or not. When plugged in the logo glows a steady orange or white. It does not blink indicating a problem in any way. (I read that some will do that depending on what's wrong..just wanted to point out
I'm not seeing that)
I get NO picture at all.
The screen remains completely dark and does not light whatsoever.
I get NO SOUND.
Once the tv is turned on it will NOT turn off by pushing the power button on tv or remote. (I understand that is a common symptom with these tv's?)
I have to unplug the television to shut it off.
Once the television is turned on, it stays on indefinitely. It does not turn itself off after a few seconds/minutes etc. (I read that is often common of a bad power supply/Capacitor so I just wanted to point out that is NOT happening here either)
That is all I have to give at this point. I am more than willing to provide pictures if requested. Hell, I'll supply enough pictures to choke a horse if I can just get this working soon. I'm fairly handy with a soldering iron and ok to mediocre with a Volt/ohm meter so steer me in the right direction and I'll probably be ok.
Once again, please help me Oh Television Guru Tech' Dudes!!
Where do I go from here??
Johnny
