Baird X47DTV 42" LCD, DTV Tuning Not Working.

    Hi Guys,

I've been given another of these cheap LCD TVs, which basically works, but has some problems.

The main problem is that the set states that there is 'No Signal' when DTV (Digital Tuner) is selected, despite the fact that my digital signal is very good (works fine & shows good levels on my main TV and DigiBox). DTV Tuning cannot be selected in the menus (it skips this option), so it's impossible to do a channel search. However, Analogue tuning works; it can be selected and searched OK, but, for obvious reasons, does not find anything. Pressing a channel no. while in DTV (1, 101 etc.) brings up a channel description bar with the channel name, but again, the signal level is shown as zero. Anybody got any idea how digital tuner switching is done - is this likely to be the Tuner/Main Board, or maybe the IF Board that's at fault?

Another problem is that the brightness is low, but this seems to be normal for these sets, as the last one I had was exactly the same. High brightness scenes look OK, but low brightness scenes are very dark. The Inverters and backlight can be seen to be working. Brightness is set to 100%, but going above 65% actually has little or no effect. Adjusting the Contrast level up/down does not help either. Although I've included some photos (100% brightness), it's very hard to show the true brightness level, as the camera tends to compensate for this.

Anybody got any ideas, know a way to reset one of these to Factory Defaults, or got a Circuit Diagram? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    Try a factory reset:
Press one of the following to bring the service menu up
    SOURCE 2 5 8 0
    SOURCE 3 6 9 0
    SOURCE 1 2 3 4

(SOURCE may also be INPUT, and the TV should be powered on. Keys pressed one after another.)

Then select "Factory Reset" at bottom of menu... and see what happens.

Thanks Tom, but none of those codes work on my set. I don't have the original remote and the one I do have does not have a SOURCE or INPUT button. However, I have tried the SOURCE button on the side of the TV, quickly followed by entering these codes on the remote. I also tried all other obvious numbers (1470, all 1s, 2s, .. 0s), nothing brings anything up.

Unfortunately you must use an original remote and it must be a remote button, not the button on the TV. My notes show INPUT 2580 worked on my CN47BAIR with various issues (Freeview faulty, bad colours), which is made by the same OEM.

Regarding brightness, the picture quality from these panels is absolutely dreadful. They may use LG panels but they are absolute bottom-of-the-barrel LG panels. And to think people probably paid over £1,500 for these TVs on finance agreements. What a rip-off!

OK, thanks, I'll try to get hold of a standard remote and give that a go.

As far as the LCD panel goes, I think you're probably right. However, having seen colour set-up on many people's (perfectly good) TVs, and those in most TV showrooms, I don't think many people know what a good picture is, which is probably how they manage to sell this stuff.
