    LG 42lc7d low standy voltage

    Working on a lg 42lc7d will not power up, no backlights,main board shuts down after 5 seconds. All voltages are good on ps except for the 5v standby is only 3.2. I have checked all caps with esr meter and all are good except for two measure bad in circuit and fine out of circuit. My picture editor is not working right now, the 2 caps showing short are to left of lower heat sink in first picture towards the bottom edge. Im stumped on this one.

      Re: LG 42lc7d low standy voltage

      "All voltages are good on ps except for the 5v standby is only 3.2." Are you saying that all the output voltages are the same as shown on the pin labels?
      Can you list the pin names of the connector, the pictures are not clear enough to see all the labels for the pins?
      Are you sure that the Standby power supply is 5VDC not 3.3V (some TV uses 3.3V for standby Voltage)?
      If the 5VSTBY is only 3.2V, the main board then cannot function correctly to send the PS-ON to turn on the main power supply section.

        I'm sorry I read wrong pin. Ps on is supposed to be 3.4 but only reading 2.4 on meter. Main board is confirmed good on another set. Standby voltage is good.

          If the main board is good confirmed on a other set and there is 5V STBY voltage on the PSU, then the PSon should be correct too.
          On that PSU take some measurements with the pin names, so we can figure out what is going on.

              I believe PWR is the PS-ON.
              Are you getting >360VDC on the two legs of the main filter caps? I f you do then PS-ON is OK.
              Burst dim and a-dim do not look right either.

                    I have 340v at main caps. Why would those two lower caps show short to ground and low esr if power supply is ok?

                      340VDC is on a low side but at least we know that the PS-ON is OK otherwise the voltage on the cap will stay at 160~170VDC.
                      Which lower caps?

                          Those two caps are the filter caps look to be for the 5V standby power supply, if they are shorted out you will not have STBY Voltage.
                          What kind of resistance, reading do you get measuring right at the two legs of the caps? <1 Ohms?

                            The bigger cap is all over the place up to 2k ohms, smaller one is at 5 ohm.

                              Does it still show 5 Ohms if the cable between the power supply board and the main board is removed?

                                  How about the pictures of the bottom side of the board so I can see how the caps are connected. I still have a big doubt about that 5 Ohms reading since you are getting 5VSTBY OK at 5V, so @5 Ohms = 1A and about 5Watts of power dissipation, some thing will get quite hot in that area which I do not see any brown spot in that section at all.

                                    After I posted that picture I wondered the same thing, my batteries were on there way out on my meter. Im getting 2500 ohms now that meter is working properly. Sorry bout that.

                                        Well... that's a better reading from the DMM. Most DMMs don't correctly if the battery is getting low. Looks like the cap is o.k. then. At 5 Ohms, that cap would have been glowing hot and it should have dragged the output voltage down.

                                        Something still doesn't add up.

                                          This is my first attempt at troubleshooting a board like this, I know I could just buy a new board but I'm curious to figure out how this works. I've been testing different components in the evenings this week and I think the problem is with the IC failing to start up for some reason. When the board is plugged in there is no standby voltage.

                                          Then today it randomly sprung to life like a zombie but shortly died thereafter. I have no idea why it would have done that and its the first time I've seen it running. I discharged capacitors on the board last night, then it was sitting today....

                                          I have no standby indicator light and no light on the optical port. I checked the standby voltage on the two mosfets in the top left and they both read 30mV. I checked the fuse and it has continuity. I also checked the voltage on the two large 450v caps they both read 153v. All of these voltages are the same with and without the main board connected as well as with backlights connected/disconnected.

                                          Nothing looks obvious like a burned ceramic disc cap or bulged electrolytic. No burned resistors, diodes, or anything like that....

                                          Hello,
                                          I have a problem with this TV, the standby voltage is not present. I have checked the components around the IC fsq510's area and they seem to work, also replaced this IC but the problem persists.
                                          These are the voltages in some pins of IC fsq510:
                                          Vcc=18v
                                          D=320v
                                          Vstr=154v
                                          Unfortunately, I couldn't find the schematic
                                          What else could I check?
                                          Is it possible to provide standby voltage from an external source to allow the TV to turn on?
                                          Thank you...

                                          Asus GL503GE 3.3 standby voltage low
                                          by brock-s
                                          An Asus GL503GE laptop arrived that had had a screw dropped on the motherboard while the battery was connected. This resulted in a physical damage to the 3.3v / 5v voltage controller RT6575DGQW (pu28 on schematic, page 40). Additionally, the trace to pin 12 (VIN 19v supply) was burnt.

                                          Replaced the RT6575DGQW with a new one, repaired the damaged trace. Only getting 0.7V instead of the expected 3.3v standby voltage (3V_S5 on schematic).

                                          Replaced the AON7408 PQ60 mosfet from a donor board as resistance was low on the gate (I did not write this value down, as I optimistically...

                                          Hello,

                                          I am trying to re-purpose this power supply that I saved years ago from a tv with a cracked screen for a monitor but that is not really that relevent at the moment. I do not recall which tv but a google search looks like it is from Wharfedale LTF37K1.

                                          You may notice I made some alterations moving some components to the top and some wires which are from a 5v regulator I fitted to the 12v output as the monitor requires 5v. The standby was already at fault from the beginning, it has nothing to do with the alterations...

                                          Years ago it had some bulging caps...
