LG 37LC2D - Backlight, no pic or sound

    Hello,

I'm completely new to the forums so please correct me if I do something wrong or post in the wrong location.

    So here's the situation:

A week ago I found an LG 37LC2D-UD tv in the hallway next to the stairs, not having one I decided to take it thinking I might get lucky. After searching up the serial number I came across this forums and read up a lot of what other people experienced with the tv.

At the time of posting this I'm currently visiting home so I can't add pictures until sunday evening. This is the first time I've ever done any electronic stuff so I'm kind of posting to see what I can do here.

After stripping off the back and looking at the PSU, I noticed one bulging cap at C200, the pins are very close together and I've never soldered anything before so I'm kind of nervous about trying to fix it. Nonetheless I'm currently in financial distress so I haven't gotten the chance to order the repair parts. I was looking at this http://www.amazon.com/37LC2D-UD-CAPA.../dp/B00M1AJCRY in order to purchase the tools and the cap I would need to replace.

I do not have a multimeter to test the other caps, nor do I know how to even test them if I did have one.

Basically what I'm asking is, is it worth trying to fix this tv? I don't have one currently and I room in a 4 bedroom apartment so something in the living room would be nice.

And since I'm not next to the PSU i think the cap was a 6V that was bulging. I apologize and will edit my post accordingly once I get back to my apartment.

Thanks for any help you guys can give me. Good luck on your own endeavors!

Anyone able to offer any insight to the situation? I'd like to come up on a $400 tv for the price of that amazon repair kit haha.

I repaired one of these not long a go i managed to get a replacement power supply for about £15.00 so i opted for that route the kit you have listed does not seem too bad i wonder if you can email the seller and ask them what capacitor make/series is used i tend to use panasonic myself when i buy capacitors.

So I received the package as of 30 minutes ago. I replaced the obvious bad cap (bulging) and then i proceeded to screw on the psu and test it. Upon turning it on the first time the tv worked. It said HDMI in the corner whereas before this point it didn't say anything. I was using the buttons on the side and couldn't get the volume or anything to pop up on the screen. So I turned it off and tried to the use the remote. Upon turning it on with the remote the light blinked 15 times and now I'm at the same point again where nothing is working.

Now, what would you veterans do in this position as this is the first experienced I've had with anything of this sort of tasks.

Is there a location someone could direct me to maybe look at replacement PSUs for the TV? As I'm sure that buying a replacement PSU will be cheaper than buying a new tv.

        Thanks for the help.

Did you replace all the capacitors in the kit? or just one just because there not buldged dosnt mean there not bad.

I only replaced the one that was bulging. Should I replace all the capacitors with the new ones i've received? This is the first experience I've had soldering anything so I'm slightly worried I might mess something up. Is it worth doing before I try looking at a replacement PSU?

Thanks again for the quick response I do really appreciate it. A tv would be much better than staring at my laptop trying to watch a tv show or movie.

if you take your time i guess its worth trying just make sure you replace the capacitors with the same uf and voltage that you remove and make sure you get the polarity right one side has a line which is negitive (theres also a mark usually on the circuit board under the capacitor too) just check as you remove them once youve done a couple it will get easier. look on you tube too theres some good videos on soldering capactors etc.

this tv is throwing me for a loop. do samsung tvs no longer have the backlight self test feature built into the power supply?
i tested the backlight with my LED tester and it lights up both strips. one of them reads 100v and the other reads 63.7v.
unplugged mainboard from power supply but left backlight plugged in, and then plugged psu wall power in. expected to see backlights light up but see nothing.
according to how ive diagnosed in the past, this would almost always be a bad power supply. replacement power supply was cheap like 20$ from ebay. but still i get not even...

Samsung UE60KU6079 backlight okay mainboard responsive, no picture, no sound
                by Ierwin
                Hello everyone,
Ive got a UE60KU6079 on the workbench that is giving me some headaches trying to troubleshoot.
The previous owner stated that there had been white dots on the screen which from the description sounded like some lenses fell of the backlight LEDs.
He had opened the TV from the back, trying to get to the backlight, supposedly gave up, reassebled everything and gave the TV to me.
I expected the worst like ripped COF cables or a cracked panel but could not find anything like that yet.
Anyway I still fully expect that there has been something seriously damaged...

it shows not even a flash of backlight when powering up.
but the tv appeas to turn on and i can hear the sound of the menus moving and clicking. i can power down the tv with the button.
testing the backlights with my tester all 4 strings lit up and showed similar voltage drops. around 110 or so.
unplug mb and leave only psu plugged into backlights (PSU + BL SELF TEST MODE?) does not light the backlights.
i do see 24v but 0v on PSON and BLON (i didnt write this down tho so cant be sure)

                by ChaosLegionnaire
so i took out one of my spare gigabyte ep35-ds3r mobos from storage for use to do some cpu, ram and video card testing of stuff i bought from ebay and got for free from momaka. he bought 50 e8400 cpus for cheap from ebay some years ago and i decided to help him relieve him of some of his supply since he had waaaay too many!! what did we say about hoarding too much stuff and depriving others of them?! *cough* socialism *cough* lol!

i had to blow some dust off the board and heatsinks with the datavac as i didnt clean it up before putting it in storage. after finishing...

Samsung UN60EH6000F Black Screen, Backlight and Sound Good. Power Cycle Returns Picture
                by Mgiffune
I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and
